http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview07/news/story?id=2984130 10 of 16 experts picked the pats to win the super bowl 16 of 16 experts picked the pats to win the division 2 of 16 experts picked the jets for the wild card somehow, i think this will end up on the bulletin board for the jets.
Nothing new here.....much rather fly under the radar, hell nobody gave us a chance last year....'experts' don't know shit.
This is no respect? The way people have been acting on the board lately you could say that they're making us the most overrated team in the league.
Dont know how you can disagree with the notion the pats will win the division. 2 guys picked the jets for the wildcard, which imo is impressive seeing as how the jets have a big hole at LG and TJ is hurt, and CP played horrible in the preseason against the vikings and not exactly great against the G-men. So if I wasnt a jets fan, i wouldnt be betting on them right now... But i still think we will be in the thick of things for the wildcard this year.
Do you think if you polled Jet fans you get a much different response? Sure, a few of us think that we are winning the division this year. A few more think we are going to win around 6 games. The truth will probly be somewhere in the middle. Its not a lack of respect. Its a prognostication based on poor preseason play. The Jets as a team and fan base have to deal with it untill they prove someone wrong.
No respect for the Jets? Who woulda thought.. There's really not much about that Jets thats jumps out at people other then solid special teams play. They don't stop the run well, they don't run the ball well themselves. The passing game is governed by a QB who can't stretch the field. Statistically the Jets are not a team to be feared. Fortunately they don't play the games on paper. The addition of Thomas Jones is great but the question remains: Will this O-line get it together enough to give the man some running room? Will Pennington survive the first few weeks of the season with a rookie and two second year guys on the O-line? Does this offense have any kind of ability to win games when there down by 10 or more at the half? I can't say I blame the "experts" for shying away from the Jets this season.
The media will give the Jets respect when they earn it. Until then, don't expect them to make predictions in favor of the Jets just because they're "your team".
In a nutshell. It continues to amaze how self centered people especially when they take offense when there team isn't expected to be successful. It's not a slap in the face to jets fans....with our preseason and our question marks you can't expect much more then this at the moment.
why do fans get so hung up on wha the media thinks? who cares, they're just like you and me and don't know anything more than any of us. and seriously, realistically speaking, why should anyone outside of Jet fans expect good things from this team? They did it with smoke and mirrors last year...didn't exactly rock the league or anything.....be realistic folks expect 8-8, and be pleasantly surprised if we are any better than that at season's end.
Exactly, until this franchise wins consistently don't expect any respect, hell we have done nothing to earn it, most of the Jets existence have been sub 500 seasons. Call it back luck, poor FO choices, poor drafts, this franchise has been plagued with bad decisions. Like every team, you put a good coach in place and smart people in the FO (when Parcells was here) and your status does rise, but the Jets have had so much instability in the franchise that we have never been consistent with anything but under-achieving. I think, just basing it from year 1, that we have a good coach, good FO, I just hope they stick to the plan -- sure doesn't help when we, fans, media, etc. have high expectations (early in a rebuilding) and when they are not met, heads roll and look we are back at square 1, it a vicious circle this franchise knows all too well.
What kind of respect do you want the Jets to get? They are weak on the Offensive line, don't stop the run, have no pass rush and have a QB who can't throw the ball 5 yards in the air. The Patriots have a good OL, a very good DL, a Hall of Fame winning QB and a 3 time Super Bowl winning Head Coach, whose also a future Hall of Famer.
The Jets are getting plenty of respect. In every power rankings, the Jets are in the top 15. This is the same team that was universally in the bottom 10 last year. Besides, predictions are meaningless - who cares?
