You're missing a great lecture by John Sterling on why the loss column is all that matters and the win column doesn't count. And an inning later, Waldman claims that Shoppach has the most cumulative strikeouts of any Tampa Bay player ever.
Well now there's only one thing left to do. Win the whole fucking thing. Great game...but why do the hats just say "MLB Playoffs" instead of "AL East Champs" or something like that?
 Posada thought it was the bottom of the 9th! He just told Kim Jones that he thought he had a walkoff until he saw Teixeira head to the plate.
Good day for the Yanks. Clinched a berth and the division. FUCK BOSTON!! It'll be interesting to see who gets rested down this stretch.
Swisher, Martin and Robertson are the guys that I bet we won't see too much of over the next few days. A-Rod will probably DH a lot--they'd like to rest him as much as possible, but he needs to get some cuts in.
Boston is still in the driver's seat. If they can just win 3 of their final 7 games, they will probably hold onto the wildcard. We should all be rooting for Tampa to steal the spot...and against the Angels. For whatever flaws they may have, I want no part of Haren-Weaver-Santana plus a west coast trip in the first round.
What a great day/night of baseball. Seeing the celebration after the night game was great too. The vets really enjoyed this one. I got down on Posada for the first time since his earliest days on the team this year, and I thought he was going to waste an at-bat last night, but I'm not sure I've ever been more happy for him. What a great year for the Core 3/4. Now I'd really like to see things like Betances and Benuelos get innings. I'd also like to see Noesi get another start. Play all of the kids and see what we've got. ARod should also play, at least as a DH. He needs the ABs. F Boston. I'm so glad to watch them lose. As for who I want to make the WC now, Tampa Bay and it isn't even close. I do not want to face the Angels' rotation. Yeah, I know, Verlander. Whatever. I'll take Detroit over LA right now. CC needs rest. He looks exhausted. He also looks like he's gained back whatever weight he lost before the season and then some. That's not good. One last note. I have given Robertson hell, and was adamant that I didn't feel he deserved the 8th inning job. I was wrong. Holy Houdini. What a year.
I think Sabathia looks fine. He looked exhausted last night because he threw 127 pitches, but the results were there. If anything I think his performance has declined a little bit from being underworked--I think the move to a 6 man rotation messed with his routine. Couldn't agree more about the Angels. Verlander is great, but I feel confident in a Sabathia/Verlander matchup (when you consider the two offenses in question.) I do not feel especially confident in a Nova/Weaver or a Colon/Santana matchup, however, especially if it comes on the road. We're a way better team than the Angels, but they would be scary in a 5 game series. Especially because they would be riding a huge wave of momentum if they were able to catch Boston.
the team overachieved for the rotation they were given to start with. Nova was simply remarkable. Colon held his own and freddy kept it together just enough. AJ, well, he is what he is, strictly bullpen material for the postseason.
Agreed. We got way more than expected from this patch-work rotation, however, now comes the most important part of the entire season and Colon and Garcia have been shelled down the stretch. I feel good with CC and Nova on the mound, Nova has been beast, but after that it's a coin flip what kind of start we get from Freddy, Colon and also Hughes. Luckily for us, the other AL playoff teams, and really every playoff team other than Philly has rotation issues as well. I think we can slug our way to the WS, but it won't be easy.
