Its reported that theres a very good chance this guy will be a free agent next year.

The Colts owe him 5.5million and likely wont pay him due to the fact that hes missed like a billion games

Being that the Jets have a huge need @ safety, are already short a 2nd round pick, and are even more desperate for a pass rusher in the first round how would you feel about this move ?

Obviously its a risk vs reward move with this guy, but at least you can be pretty sure hes not going to get paid much (or cost any draft picks). But if we signed him we likely wouldnt have any new safety depth either (ie him leonhard, smith, ihedigbo)

And we have to be honest and realize that theres almost no way we could afford a big ticket free agent safety if we plan on resigning our own studs.

So how would you feel about this move if it happened ?

We don't know if we lost a 2nd or 3rd round pick yet.

I don't think it's worth signing a player made out of glass. He just can't stay healthy.

    Gotta agree with 624.

Why build a house of cards if you know the minute the wind blows your efforts are gone?

Huge risk but Bob Sanders is such a good safety... I would take the risk considering even an injured Bob Sanders is better than an Eric Smith or Drew Coleman

I know he's a good run stuffer, but then so is E. Smith and Lheonard... how is he in coverage? IMO that is where our safeties really suck balls.

No he has never played a full season ever. I wonder what the odds are that he will, if he came here.

He'll be a great addition to our injured reserve list.

Since his new deal in December 07 he has missed 39 of the last 49 games.

The only positive though is none of the injuries are the same thing. So its not like a specific chronic problem that he has.

Then again there arent too many opportunities to grab a guy who recently was DPOTY and have it not cost you shit except a roster spot.

If there is no season in 2011 I would want him, hopefully he can stay healthy.

There three reasons why you would able to get a recent DPOY winner:
    1. He wants too much money for his current team to afford to resign him

    2. Fluke season

    3. He's always fucking injured

    Clearly #1 isn't the case.

You guys are already discussing which of your star players should get traded/released to free up some $$$, why would you want a guy like sanders being the reason you have to see those guys go?

He won't be able to play a full season, and will take away from the overall depth of the team.

I would expect that the jets will invest in safeties during this offseason, but this type of move would not make sense to me

nope, not at all. he isn't what we need. he is a run stopper plus always hurt. i would want him as a starter. leonhard is our SS which is what sanders plays. we need a free safety

tarnard jackson and weddle are the 2 best options and i'm not sold on either

No, and Bob's from my hometown. I'm a fan, but this guy just can't stay healthy. he would be great for about 6 to 8 games for us.

The IR could use some talent at the safety position to play across from Jim Leonhard.

No way in the world can we afford Weddle. Hes not gonna get a Rolle sized contract but he definitely wont fit into our budget.

Dont know what Jacksons deal is either though.

    Eric Weddle: 5'11"

    Jim Leonhard: 5'8"

The Patriots will running 4 TE sets.

He is really good, but the Jets would be paying him to pretty much play half the season, I'd rather get someone who can last an entire season and not be hurt 90 % of the time.
