His time is past but this was a move to placate the fire Idzik people. Woody knows he wants to keep John.

Better than using that shit firm that brought hoke to Michigan and Idzik to the jets.

I wouldn't count on that if I were you. Sounds like Casserly's advice would be better suited to keeping Rex than Idzik...

    Charley Casserly October 2014:

" [The Jets - without getting corners] an example of the front office not getting what the coach needs,” Casserly continued. “From the outside-in, that’s the obvious one we look at there. It’s a legitimate question because clearly there’s not enough talent around that football team to compete. I thought Rex should have been the coach of the year at 8-8 last year.”

Anything is a step in the right direction, but this definitely would be a good move.

Wouldn't make sense to bring in Casserly just to pick a head coach while retaining Idzik. Woody is cleaning house.

Yeah, it's likely Casserly would recommend the new GM and a whole new Player Personnel team.

I hope the GM continues Idzik's strategy and improves upon it.

Idzik's idea was sound, but the execution was mediocre at best. Build through the draft and dont blow your load in FA, until the team is ready to seriously compete. Stick to the BPA strategy, for the most part. If you draft a QB, put him in the best situation to succeed.

He needs to clear out the entire staff and scouting department. Start fresh and bring in some guys who can evaluate offensive talent. Bring in a coach who can manage the game, and will play the best player, regardless of status in the league.

I'm not saying it's the right or wrong move but it's Woody's decision.
Woody loves Rex. Woody just hired a huge Rex supporter who knows how good of a coach Rex is. That same Rex supporter publicly bashed Idzik.
Woody didn't see any planes flying over saying "Fire Rex Ryan!"
You know deep down Woody probably knows he should fire Rex but doesn't want to. I think there's a realistic chance 15-25% chance Rex is back and Idzik is gone.

Atleast Casserly is a football guy who will push for the hire of other football guys.

If it was another cap guy I'd be worried but I think this is decent news.

Good news. Casserly has a highly respected opinion, much better move on Woody's part than hiring the firm.

    From Wikipedia:

    "
During Casserly's tenure as GM, the Texans went 4–12 in their inaugural season of 2002, then improved to 5–11 in 2003 and 7–9 in 2004 before slumping to a disappointing 2–14 record in 2005. During the 2005 season, while the Texans were 1–12, team owner Bob McNair hired former NFL coach Dan Reeves to serve as a consultant to help McNair evaluate his team.[5] After the end of the season, head coach Dom Capers was fired by McNair. Casserly was criticized for a number of personnel moves, including trading second and third round picks to the Oakland Raiders for Phillip Buchanon in 2005. Buchanon was a poor player for the Texans in 2005, and was released by the team after the first four games of the 2006 season. In a public interview, McNair criticized the trade for Buchanon, saying that the front office had not done its homework.

Subsequent to the Texans' 2006 NFL Draft and after the Texans' 2-14 season, Casserly left the organization on June 1, 2006. Casserly sought a job in the National Football League front office, but was passed over for the job.[6] He was succeeded as General Manager by Rick Smith. Casserly's work with the Texans was subjected to much criticism.[7]"

Well, I had Woody's back before, but if this means he is either firing Idzik or taking control from him, then he has given in to the impatient fans and the media, and in the process, became the terrible owner those same fans and media paint him out to be. We will see, I guess.

Very interesting news. For months now we have all believed it was a forgone conclusion that Rex was gone but Casserly loves Rex... alot. He thinks he is a great coach, ( He is a great DC) and might be able to pursued Woody to keep him and find a new GM.

All of this brings up the important question of if Rex is brought back where would we go for a GM? Just give the job to Rex and let Bradway handle the cap??

Does anyone want Rex picking all of our FA's and draft picks?? Questions to mull over

This is a terrible move by Woody, what has this man done that convinces anyone that he can make any suggestions on how to get this organization moving in the right direction?

    Woodrow blows it again.

Do us a favor and just sell the team to a member of the Rooney family.
