I keep hearing this? The people saying this like Joe Beningo, are they all clueless or am I clueless? I think the last reason why we would get rid of Revis is because he doesnt want to pay him as an individual. I mean havent the Jets spent every possible dollar available these last couple of seasons? Havent we been in "cap hell" because we spent so much? I dont get how people can sit their and say that Woody doesnt want to spend money, I mean the man imo has spent the money, it just hasnt worked out well. Hes been anything but cheap imo. Thoughts?
i just posted about this another thread. woody s not cheap,he has scratched plenty of checks to prove that. he doesn't want to pay revis because of revis' holdout history. there is no reason to believe he will not holdout the second he is no longer the highest paid defensive player in the league. so pay him now and then let him hold the team hostage again in 3 years? woody is right on this one
Only in The world of the Jets does making a hard right decision get portrayed in such a negative light. Paying a CB QB money just makes absolutely no sense especially with the state of the Jets roster. If it was any other team it wouldn't be portrayed so negatively. That money that Revis would get will get spent but it will be spent on 3 or 4 players instead of one Cb. Anyone that can look at Jets roster and not see that is a smart decision has an agenda against the Jets.
In my opinion most people who are opposed to trading Revis are saying it because Revis is the only star on the team and they want a star to watch. In reality it's best for the Jets to trade him.
Speaking of money. Is there any chance the Jets could work a contract so he gets big signing bonus and guarenteed money after this year. Basically work the cap so he fits in 2013? I feel like as an OLB he would be a beast in a RR system. I don't know what kind of money he's going to command so it's an honest question not a "sign this beast" comment. Edit lol.Chris Avril
Exactly, but it looks bad when Sanchez is being paid more than Brady and the Jets still can't sign Revis. The amount Revis wants is ridiculous, but you know that people will just focus on the Sanchez contract part.
For the last 3 years Arron Rogers, SB MVP and one of the best QBs on the planet, has been playing football for about half of what the Jets have been paying Revis to play CB (or lay in a hospital bed as it were). So what would you rather have? Not one, but TWO Arron Rogers battling it out in training camp to see who starts for the Jets -or- one CB shutting down one player from the other team?
The bottom line is Woody, just like other 31 NFL owners, is allowed to spend $123M per year. This is exactly the amount that he spends. The only real control an owner has is how large of a cut of this $123M pie each player gets. Those "experts" don't like Woody's decision re Revis' piece -- that's fine. But saying that an owner is cheap because of the piece size is moronic.
Those people need to realize the money from Brady's contract was mostly converted to signing bonus...where's the violin Sanchez contract still blows.
Some of you guys have horrible analogies Then comparing our team to others doesn't help at all No one is saying pay Revis QB money but don't low ball him either Come training camp if this team is still fielding Sanchez, Holmes and Tebow yet Revis gets the boot Woody can kiss his profits goodbye because fans are sick of it Guys want to trade Revis for unknowns then saying things like he's effecting our cap is just dumb. Give him a 7 year deal worth 99M and continue to build our defense around our 2 stud corners and fix the O through the draft eventually Sanchez, Holmes, Harris and Cromartie come off the books and our cap will be fine
he's the top pass rusher available right now. the market for him is going to be crazy. i don't see the jets going that way
It's because they don't understand how the salary cap works. They understand what it is, in the abstract, but they believe that there's magical provisions that nobody in the public knows about that lets you ignore it in special circumstances. And that those special circumstances (that nobody knows about, but front office NFL people) always apply to the Jets, in perpetuity. These same people will also always advocate moving up in the draft.
i answered your other post. i would take geno at 4 and hope jordan or jones falls to 9. i know where you stand with sanchez and i don't want to derail this thread so i expect you to disagree
Its not just about Woody not wanting to pay him we have no money to pay him, it will be just Revis and no depth anywhere
