    From the official Jets Twitter..

RL: New roster out shows Danny Woodhead with a new uni #, 83. He's still on practice squad but working today at WR. More from Rex later.

Interesting. He might be a decent slot receiver... screens to Woodhead. I hope we hear more about it shortly.

I could see Woodhead as a "Wes Welker" type player......a midget running around, catching balls out of the backfield/flat on screen plays...and catching slant routes from the slot...

he just needs to hone his skills.

EDIT: good call concussion80...beat me to it. :)

You never know. We got our own Mini Welker as an undrafted free agent from Hawaii so it's possible.

There's something to be said for unheralded, undersized, quick, wily white guys playing the slot in the NFL.

Chrebet and Welker come to mind of course.

I love it. I think he's very Leon-like in open field. Just didn't have the power to burst thru the holes in the line. This may be a perfect place for him.

The only problem with that response is Toto was talking about Davone Bess. The skin color was not part of the comparison.

Agreed. There were thoughts that he might be the "secret weapon" at receiver in the offseason that turned out to be Britt Davis. Hopefully Woodhead will pan out better if we enter into this.

At the very least I doubt this is something that would be considered under Mangini. We'll see what happens but he certainly could get his shot this week if Smith is out with Cotchery.

I doubt it. To move him up from the PS, we'd have to cut somebody on the active roster. Unless there's someone who has seriously disappointed to this point, I don't see cuts coming. Of course, I never did hear who we even elevated to the active roster in our little 2 for 1 trade. Were we operating on a 52 man roster?

Wes Welker is listed at 5'9", height won't be a problem. Stranger things have happened in the NFL, no? ;)

Oh right, we didn't cut anyone to make room for Calvin. My bad. Pace was reinstated on Monday, so I assumed we had to cut someone for him, but we must have received a temporary exemption.

I posted that about a 2 hours ago, I didn't think it deserved it's own thread so it's berried in the Clowney thread.

more of a mini Percy Harvin IMO

PS that other guy in NE, Edelmann... he is playing well in that position too... with defenses becoming more aggressive in the NFL these kind of players become more and more precious...
