I really thought the Pats overused Woodhead, especially as a runner and especially in the 2nd half. I think Green Ellis runs much harder than Woodhead and Sammy Morris has been in a lot more big games. The Pats were lucky to recover Woodhead's fumble in the 4th quarter (which would have sealed the game), and Green Ellis showed great hustle recovering Brady's fumble when he was crushed by Pace. So for all the Danny Woodhead hype that I never really bought into, I'm glad the Pats used him so much today.
woodhead is too small in space he is great but he got eaten alive against a big jets front green ellis kept churning out yards
In fairness, you can't blame Woodhead. He played well. The Jets outplayed them as a team. Not Woodhead's fault.
Woodhead had something like 96 yards from scrimmage, in all fairness. That's like 150 yards for a normal-sized person.
Both the Colts and Pats ran to much, to mike liking of course. We dared them and they bite. Today, our coverage was sick
I don't know if he backfired, thats a strong statement. The Patriots just plain lost really, not sure how Woodhead has too much to do with it aside from that maybe they did overuse him a bit.
As a runner he sucked but he still got just under 100 yards between catching and rushing... nothing to sneeze at... edit: 98 yards...
Woodhead did alright, but I agree with the OP to a certain extent. I think that Green-Ellis would've been better for what New England was doing on offense. Woodhead is a great weapon when the Pats passing attack is working because he is tough to bring down in space, but the Jets were blanketing the Pats receivers all day--that really allowed them to collapse on Woodhead and keep him contained until garbage time.
Not sure why they didn't use Green-Ellis more....Woodhead was getting slammed to the ground by the Jets D. Also, not sure with the score 21-11 Jets the Pats decided to continue to run the ball on minimal gains that wasted the clock...that ~7:45 min drive that yielded no points was the nail in their coffin. BTW, I still think we recovered the Woodhead fumble...that bastard Pats player just put his hands on the ball but did not have possession.
