Home: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Washington, Cleveland Away: Buffalo, New England, Houston, Indianapolis, Dallas, NY Giants, Oakland London: Miami I saw this thread before FA now after lets predict with the amazing players we got!
When you consider that the Jets are on the road in London, and in both meetings with the Giants, this is a really favorable schedule.
we have about a week until the sched is released. I will wait at least until then but on paper we have playoff caliber talent. the big question marks are coaching(new staff) and QB. one tidbit that is interesting yet really means nothing is that we have had a winning record w/ each new coach in their first year since BP took over and last 3 have led us to playoffs. BP: went from 1-15 to 9-7, missed playoffs on final week Groh: from 8-8 to 9-7, missed playoffs final week Herm: 9-7 to 10-6, made playoffs Mangini- 4-12 to 10-6, made playoffs Rex: 9-7 out of playoffs to 9-7 in playoffs let's hope this trend continues.
If we manage 10-6 I'll be impressed. At this point, I believe the big question is the QB position...not just who but how it's handled.
remember when we were making these threads last season and we were predicting AT LEAST 9-7 and 10-6 and challenging the pats for the afc title? NOPE. without a qb (meaning we stay with geno) we'll be 6-10 or 7-9. the team did get better but we have a new staff so it'll take time to get used to it (shouldnt be too hard since bowles = rex in terms of defense but on offense gaily is going to have to do his thing). i'd be very happy if the team proved me wrong. i just want to see a shift in team attitude, that'll be more important than the record going forward
At best: 9-7 Most likely: 7-9 I'd be very happy with: 8-8 I don't see more than a 4 game improvement because of the Qb position coupled with new systems on both sides of the ball.
QB is such a wildcard. If Geno can just play average football, the Jets should be playoff contenders at minimum. Same with Fitzpatrick. If our QB plays shitty football, than we'll be look at a 7-9 season IMO.
I don't think Geno's leash is long enough to affect the season. If it looks like Bad Geno shows up, he's gonna get benched PDQ. He does not have the protection of the GM anymore.
Yea half way through my post I came to that realization. Thats why I made sure I mentioned Fitzpatrick as well. Basically if Jets QB's play average/solid football, the Jets should compete for the playoffs.
2013 with an easy schedule and a rookie QB (and some amazing calls from the refs) we went 8-8 2014 with a killer schedule and a rookie +1 QB (and a baaaad defense) we dropped to 4-12 2015 with an easy schedule and a rookie +2 QB (and a greatly improved defense) we SHOULD go 7-9 to 10-6
We have a playoff caliber team. I don't think this team wins 9 games with Geno Smith playing QB - that's just how I feel, he doesn't show up in big spots. If we give Fitzpatrick the chance, I think we could reach 9 or 10 wins. He's a better QB that can get the ball to our receivers. He just can't turn the football over constantly. Geno will have us out of a game by the end of the first freaking QTR.
still too early to predict until after the draft..if we get a qb, wr or edge rusher in the first and a rb or wr or qb in the second the win total could easily go up by two or three.
Divisional: I think we can go 3-3. Otherwise speaking: Home: win vs Jacksonville, Tennessee, Washington, Cleveland. Lose to Philly. Away: Win against Giants (i see their strong point is passing and our passing d should be on point, but we still need to play well to win this), Oakland. Lose to Dallas and Indi and maybe Houston. There's always upsets and bad games so who knows Indi and Oakland could switch but this seems most likely. overall: 9-7 I think we have a weak enough schedule to do it. Throw in an upset or two and that's a definite playoff team. Just make sure we're the ones pulling off the upsets.
Just remember: we went 11-5 with Sanchez one year. Geno has shown flashes (week 17) and also had a higher QBR in 2014 than Eli Manning in 2007- and he won the Super Bowl. I'm not a Geno apologist but I think if there's a great team around him we can still contend. Remember, he went 8-8 with a worse team than this and a somewhat tougher schedule (somewhat). It's not impossible to make the playoffs with him at QB.
There is not a rookie in this draft that will increase our win total by more than 1 game. And if we start a rookie qb i would expect a sub .500 record
