The Bengals and the Chargers both dared Sanchez to pass by frequently putting 8 men on the line on defense. The Bengals, in particular, paid for this tactic with the Sanchez to Keller screen that worked twice for big gains. The Chargers got burned by not having guys sitting back to tackle Shonn Greene on his epic run.

So the question, I guess, is two parts - Will the Colts stack the box and does it benefit the Jets if they do?

Let them stack the box all they want.
First: We always have the sanchez to keller combo that is really heating up lately.
Second: The colts d as has been pointed out is built for speed... not strength. Shonn Greene can break some of these tackles and then its off to the races

I'm sure they will mix it up but I wouldn't be surprised to see them stacked the majority of the time and see if Sanchez can beat them. I don't know if it benefits us or not it depends if our O-line is up to the task which I think they will be.

I said this in another thread, but it's appropriate to add here. I remember watching the Colts/Dolphins game earlier in the season the Fins went with an unbalanced line and repeatedly gashed the Colts up the gut. The Colts never adjusted or stacked the box. It was maddening to watch.

I don't know if they've changed since then, but if they haven't I see no reason why we won't run 40+ times.

Does a bear go poo in the woods? it could be a huge benefit to us if Shotty is smart enough to call passes that just drop over the LBers head

They'd be pretty dumb not to. Their prerogative should be to make Sanchez beat them. It's not going to be the chip on the shoulder cockiness to make the run beat them we would see against the Pats.

So far, everyone seems to be assuming the Colts will stack the box. It's not usually their gameplan to do so, even against a bad quarterback. They usually stick to the Cover 2 and try to prevent the big play.

I guess you missed my comment?

I won't be surprised if they don't. I also won't be surprised if you see a heavy dose of Brad Smith this week.

I dont think they have to put everyone in the box the way the Chargers did. The Colts D is probably the fastest in the NFL and they are amazing tacklers. I dont think they'll sit back in the old Tony Dungy Cover 2 either.

I'm sure they'll mix it up. They would have to look at the Chargers and Cincy games. You can put everyone in the box if you want but if Greene makes one guy miss or busts through one tackle theres no one left to save a TD.

Either way they're in trouble. If they don't, Jones will run all over them. If they do, Greene will.

And if they do, Sanchez will light them up.

BTW: I expect Keller to have a big game this week. Just a hunch, but I'm thinking this is going to be a big game for him.

They suck at stopping the run.

It leaves them no choice but stacking the box. You can't just let the #1 run offense dominate and expect to win.

I heard the Colts don't like going near a box, they'll probably be stacked in the showers.

It would be very stupid of the colts to stack the box.... This has been the motto of the rest of the teams that fell to us... If they stack the box then Sanchez has to make simple completions then they will back out of the stacking the box and the running game will pound the shit out of them.

doesnt matter what they do we gotta figure out a way to beat their D. If they stack the box sanchez and keller will be very important. If not Greene will pound the shit out of the ball.
