    FB that is!

I loved seeing Richardson blast over the goal line 2 yrs ago, and I really hope he gets to play that role again. Several ppl here have said Chan Gailey's offense does NOT require a FB so we won't carry one.

Hopefully that means we'll see Richardson blasting holes through terrified Safeties and DBs on goal line stands all season long. Some ppl here bitched about using him like that, but I loved it.

What do you think? Will Gailey/Bowles bring back that wrinkle?

As long as he isn't diving around like an asshole. That one game he tweaked his ankle playing FB scared the shit out of me.

The last thing we need is 6 defenders in the box diving at our 300 lbs stars ankles for a couple plays.

Hopefully not. He's too valuable on defense to risk injury doing what we pay offensive RBs to do. If I'm a safety and I need to tackle Richardson, I'm just going to dive through his knees.

So we're suddenly worried about injury? WTF? Have you not seen the violence along the trenches?

Using his 300+ pounds of pure speed and talent to blast the rock into the endzone is awesome to watch. It's not some stupid gimmick. It's using your biggest, most talented player to paste 7 points on the scoreboard. If you're too scared for that, you got no business even watching football.

So wait, you'd rather have 220 pound Ivory run 'into' the pile or Geno 'The Human Rocket' Smith launch 'over' the pile? If those are your 2 choices, give me Richardson pounding it down their throats every time.

Isn't pounding it in on short yardage a traditional roll for your FB? You know, the 'bigger guy'? Maybe you're all to young to remember The Frig!

There would be NO ONE on the other side of the ball looking forward to trying to stop him.

Sheldon Richardson is a defensive linemen not some antique Fullback. The only place a fullback is needed and used these days is in Madden for short yardage plays and goalline plays. We really should find a good fullback though and utilize him the way he is suppose to be used

It was fun to watch but i'm good. Ridley & Ivory will have enough fun beat defenses up

ok but the first time we lose a game b/c Ivory gets stuffed on the 1 inch line I'm gonna bump this thread.

Or if Bowles comes out and says seeing Richardson blast over DB was the scariest thing he's ever seen and he can't wait to bring it back :)

Need to find a hback to do the goal line sets, he's scary tough when they line him up but all we need is for some crazy mf like Suh to leg whip him and tear his acl doing something he shouldn't even be doing, he is part of the long term future of the team, if it was a guy like Douzable then I'd be okay with it

I love when he is used for this. Allow him to blast his way through the OLine, hopefully taking two people out with him.

And wasn't that the whole point? We don't have any good RBs and haven't since Jones and Tomlinson left so I can't see taking a RB at 6 either but if we do I won't be one of the ones on this board crying about it. If we end up stuck with Smith for another year there isn't any other position on the field that would help him more now than a good running game.

Beefing up the OLine will help him AND the running game. I would love to trade down and grab OLine

Men like Douzable won't cut it or every team would do it. They're just too slow off the line and defenses could easily adjust.

What make Richardson so effective is his short distance speed and acceleration. He's so fast he actually dropped back into coverage at times and played LBer in college covering TEs and Slot Receivers. He gets from zero to crushing speed in 3 steps, which makes it tough for defenses to adjust to the hole he's headed for and no desire to do so even if they could.

It's no different than having Kerley fair catching punts. If he's the best player for the job, put him out there. It's football.
