Something that seems to be brought up during most weeks in the game threads is our lack of pass rush. I'm wildly confused about the misconception that our pass rush is bad or that our defensive line doesn't go a good job at creating pressure. Now look, I understand that we were (29th?) in sacks with 8 coming into this game, but we were 3rd in quarterback hits. Anyone that has played football would tell you that although sacks are great, quarterback hits are a better indicator of pressure percentage. We aren't the #1 defense in the NFL if our pass rush is below average. Also, even though we don't finish sacks, our constant pass rush has forced countless bad throws that have resulted in our absurd turnover rate earlier in the season. I am also confused about what people exactly expect in terms of creating pressure from our defensive line. Brady gets the ball out the fastest of any QB in the NFL with 2.09 seconds per dropback. Even the greatest defensive lines aren't getting amazing pressure that quickly and it's impressive that we got 3 sacks against him. Brady is literally a different animal in Foxborough and until he started getting the ball out almost instantly, i thought we pressured him well what are your guys' thoughts on the pass rush?
I think we'll always be low in the sack department (no pun intended) until we find a legit OLB, no matter how beastly our d-line is.
New England went back to pass like 55 times and we only sacked Brady three times, with a weak offensive line against our supposed strength.
To me, edge vs Brady means squat- he just steps up like any HOF does. We need up the middle push- refer to the Giants 2 superb bowls against them
Brady has the quickest release in the league. Not many people sack him. And we don't have a real presence at OLB.
New England went back to pass like 55 times and in the second half Brady released within 1 or 2 seconds every time - you try pushing and running upfield in those circumstances and it gasses any Dline They also did not try to run even when ahead showing they had little or no confidence in their line against our strength - injury to Pryor hurt us as he had been on Gronk and doing OK to that point
You know, it looks like a spacing thing with our line. Our rushes tend to be straight up with the ends pushing to the inside. The result is the o-line staying bunched together. When I watch other teams their guys are spaced to pull the line apart, or at least it seems like that. Oddly, our guys have pretty good pursuit speed. Bottom line is that we need a pass rusher.
I wish we were able to get Randy Gregory in round 2 or 3. Would've really been a great help for on the edge
Against the Pats, the lack of pass rush late in the game, against a makeshift Oline with two rookies in the middle.....killed us.
Shocking we didnt get it. Wtf lol Smh we shouldve dominated that line. Bradys saavy and quick decision making always helps of course.
