I know I'm a bit of a dark sider (putting it lightly), but I'm thinking more about next season b/c I think this season is the playing out of cause and effect for how poorly Tannenbaum has drafted (Sanchez/Greene & KWilson/Ducasse classes especially) and we are likely to be 5-11, if not worse. Whether you agree with the aforementioned or not, what I want to ascertain is who is more likely than not (let's say 75% probability) to not be back next season. Initial thoughts of mine (cap savings in brackets): Calvin Pace ($8.5M) Bryan Thomas (FA) Bart Scott ($7.1M) Yeremiah Bell (FA) Eric Smith ($3M) Brandon Moore (FA) Shonn Greene (FA) Possibilities: Sione Pouha ($3.8) Thoughts on this list? Any additions or deletions? How many of the aforementioned can be replaced via FA, and list any candidates we should be following? Same logic for the draft, who should we be targeting in rds 1-3? Thanks
agreed with the list, i could see bell being brought back for one more season....but everyone else I would agree will be gone, no matter how this season plays out weather its 10-6 or 4-12....
Offense Brandon Moore Shonne Greene Jason Hill Jeff Cumberland Defense Bart Scott Calvin Pace Bryan Thomas Eric Smith Sione Puoha
David Harris is WAY overpaid. He should be restructured, if he can be. Pace and Bart cut. Bart brought back cheap is what I'd like to see. We need to put more money into the offense imo.
Pace HAS to be gone. Scott HAS to be gone. IsntKeller aFA as well? If so he'dbe rightbehind those other guys
I hope all of those guys are gone except maybe Bart Scott. he's proved to be a leader when Revis is out.
If a new FO/coach combo comes in I think there are at least 20 Jets who will not be back next season. The obvious ones are obvious but people like LaRon Landry and Dustin Keller could easily be let go in free agency because a new regime wouldn't be able to evaluate their role very well in the chaotic talent turnover that always happens when a new coach comes in. Also, the bit players suffer really heavily when the regime changes. They have their spots largely because somebody in the old regime saw something in them. In the new regime they're just another scrub and it's easy to replace them. This would be particularly true if Mike Westhoff actually retires this off-season.
Scott and Pace will definitely be gone and probably Thomas as well. I'd like the Jets to resign LaRon, I think he fits Rex's defense well. Im not sure about him and Bell though. On Offense probably Moore and then scrubs like Jason Hill and Clyde Gates. I dont think Shonn Greene is going anywhere, but I would assume the Jets will bring in another back and have Greene back in the role he was in during thr 2009 and 2010 seasons.
On defense: Scott and Pace will be cut to save money. Thomas and Bell won't be brought back after their contracts run out. Landry is the wildcard, and it depends on how much money he is asking for. On offense: I don't think there will be wholesale changes. At most, Moore might not be brought back.
Calvin Pace, Bart Scott, Bryan Thomas, Shonn Greene, Dustin Keller, Sione Pouha, Matt Slauson, Brandon Moore, Yeremiah Bell and either Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow. Landry they may try to retain, though the cap issues will be tough to do so.
pace and Scott for sure . I don't want either back at any price. Shonn Green is not a starting running back. Id rather we shed the dead weight and hopefully pick up a name brand back.
Offense: Sanchez might not be back. I wouldn't be surprised if Tebow is gone. Maybe Moore? Maybe Greene? Defensively: Pouha might not be back. I would bet money that Thomas retires after this year, Pace might not be back, I hope Bart hits the road, ditto for Eric Smith. Yeremiah Bell might not be back.
