I am a firm believer that D'Brickashaw Ferguson is the 3rd or 4th best player in the entire draft. If we had D'Brickashaw Ferguson last year instead of Jason Fabini perhaps Chad doesn't get his arm ripped off again... LT is a huge need, I don't care if you think Adrian Jones is a decent player. Bryan Thomas has just as much potential as Adrian Jones, but I don't hear anyone saying we can't take Mario Williams because of him... Brick will provide us with a monster pass protecting LT and has amazing off the field habits. This is a guy we can build around and should build around. People complaining about his size are incorrect in their stance...He weighed 312 pounds at the Combine and will more than likely play aound that weight in the NFL...Also most OT's gain weight over time in the NFL. So his size should be our last concern. As far as his run blocking is concerned, I don't know that much about it other than it has room for improvement. There isn't one player in the draft who can't stand to get better at something so this doesnt bother me. I am also a big fan of Mario Williams. He is a more athletic, smaller version of Richard Seymour. He can play DE in either the 3-4 or 4-3 and that kind of versatility would be wanted from a Bellichick deciphal... Either one makes me happy, but as of now I take Brick and don't think twice.
Fergie baby. Hes been outstanding for 4 years. Hes gone up against some elite DEs and shut them down. I cant say the same thing for Mario, him going against elite Tackles and destroying them. Mario only had one good year as opposed to D'Bricks 4.
I think it is easy to say that both D'brick and Mario are great prospect and that it is ones opinion of who is more of a vaule. They both could be all pros and they both could suck. Both postions are important but with that being said I would rather play against D'brick then I would Mario. From: Mario = Beast thread
I agree Plus it's funny how a month can change someone's draft stock. In Feb I did a poll with a lot more choices and Mario Williams had like 20 or so with D'Brick and Jay Cutler with like 50 plus. D'Brick won by 3 votes in the end, but now the Cutler Hype seems to have died down, and these look like the guys that will be there at 4.
I don't know what it is about these kind of threads, but I enjoy responding to them. There is one posted almost everyday, "who would you take at 4" but I still post in them everytime.
It will proably change again the closer we get to the draft, how would you like to be the guy that has to make the final call on who you are going to take.
I am almost certain it is very stressful, but once the pick has been made I am sure all that goes away. I doubt we could comprehend that kind of pressure, to make the "RIGHT" choice...
Especially for the Jets with thier bad luck in the draft. You have any idea how many Blair Thomas rookie cards I bought, I thought he was going to be great.
Mario williams...6'6 295.. Runs faster than peppers and is stonger.. Can anyone say perrenial pro-bowler?
Are you sure he runs faster than Peppers? I agree though he is gonna be a good one, but I also believe the Saints agree with you.
We need D'Brick more , but since Abe is now gone we also need a DE , I would take Williams over D'Brick in a heart vs Head decision and try to land one of the other top OTs in the second. Mangold has to be pick 29.
Either player would be an excellent choice for the Jets in my opinion. In the end, you need to protect your QB's, so I'm going with D'Brick at #4.....assuming he's still there...
It's much easier to get an effective OT then a great pass rusher. I would go for the effective OT/great pass rusher combo over great OT/effective DE combo.
Many valid points made in this thread... In the end I suspect well take the one thats available (one will be off the board by our pick)
I've got to believe it's Mario for the FO just because he offers that versatility up front which we know Mangini covets. He's also my choice between the two just because I would rather have the best DE and a RT then two LTs and no DE.
That's a very good point, but I think it works both ways.... This is a tough question based on the Jets needing players at both positions. You did lose Abraham, so going DE isn't out of the question. Not by a longshot. It will be a tough decision on draft day, but you can't miss at #4...
I don't see the humor in that - Heck, even the NFL teams are working overtime and changing their boards around every day.... You can pat yourself on the back though if you figured it all out in Feb - Congrats Man!!!! Enjoy the "Laughs".... I wanted some time until I committed to my choice SUPER FREAK MARIO THE GOD!!!! But, That's Life - It happens every year - Dewayne Robertson was an aftrerthought in Febuary of the year Bradway picked him.
