with the aquisition of the DE from Pitt, i won't even attempt to spell his name, i'd say we draft AJ Hawk to help out in the 3-4
Depends, if Cutler or Leinart are available, we may go QB. But, then it's the best player available. That'll be either Mario Williams, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Vernon Davis or AJ Hawk. OR, we trade down.
Next order of business for our Fo is to see what kind of preliminary value we can get from trading down. They have a responsibility to keep all options open. If the best option is to select at #4 I'd go with Super Mario if available. DE's are priceless. It's very rare that you see late round talent develop into gamechangers at that position. If he isn't available then my next choice would be Deangelo Williams. It's a bit of a reach and a luxury but in my mind I think that he will be special. Take advantage while CMart is still around to teach.
Wow, that really answered the question... The Answer would be: D'brick The real question is... WTF?!?!?!?
I think Mario would be the best pick for us...we replace Abe with him and have Oelhoffen teach him the defense and how to position himself. That's one of the main reasons I think we signed him. Mario's huge so he would probably be alot better at defending the run than Abe was.
i'll take D'brick, Super Mario, *****AJ HAWK*****, maybe vernon davis..................or DEAGALO WILLIAMS
No QB at #4 I hate to break the news to all those hoping for the Jets to pick one of the big three QBs in the draft, but the Ramsey trade made that highly unlikely. The Jets are not going to draft a QB in the first round. It would be a wasted pick with all the other holes on this team. The QB spot is filled. The Jets did not restucture Pennington and acquire Ramsey only to draft another QB and sink more money into the QB position. The Jets may draft a QB in the middle rounds, but it makes no sense for them to pick Leinart, Young or Cutler now. The Jets will either draft Ferguson or Williams. If both are gone, I see the Jets trading down with a team that needs a QB.
Ramsey doesn't cost alot of money, so the argument that they can't sink more money into the QB position doesn't fly. They're really just renting him for this year so they have a veteran who can start in case Chad isn't healthy enough to be a capable starter. They could draft a QB in the top five and release/trade Bollinger. This way, they'd still have three quarterbacks. If Ramsey ends up starting and becomes a very good quarterback, then they may try to keep him past 2006 and release Chad. So in 2007, they could have Ramsey, the kid they draft this year, and some random third stringer. Joe, it's not like the Jets envision Patrick Ramsey as the future QB of this franchise. I mean, for god sakes, he was Plan B to Jon Kitna. Think about it.
Look, Jets management doesn't think he's the answer. They took a flyer on him and are hoping for the best. They did not get Kitna and the FA options remaining aren't particulary enticing so they hope Schottenheimer can turn this kid around like he did Brees. If he doesn't, who gives? He's only signed for 2006 and for a pretty cheap price too. This is a low risk, high reward move. I don't think Ramsey will become a good Quarterback, but it won't be the end of the world if he doesn't because management isn't making a large investment on him that could end up crippling the team. He's just a fallback option for 2006 in case Chad isn't healthy. What will probably happen is Chad will not be healthy, Ramsey will suck as our starter this season, and then in 2007, the kid (Cutler, Young, or Leinart) will take over.
If we wanted Hawk we would have to take him at 4 because teams like Greenbay at #5, San Fran at #6, and even Oakland at #7 would all snatch up Hawk if given the oppurtunity... Having said all of that...it would be kinda silly to grab a LB this year. #4 overall- Jay Cutler #31 overall- Nick Mangold 2nd rounder- Bobby Carpenter (Wishful thinking)
Unless a team has a real love for 1 particular QB the Jets might have a hard time trading down in that situation. Who's looking for a QB at that point and willing to trade up knowing all 3 are there? Might be difficult unless there is one QB the team especially has their heart set on.
The only thing i have a problem with is when you said the QB spot is filled, it is filled with an injured QB and an unproven mediocre QB, i dont feel very good about the security of the position. If the JETS can get a franchise QB they have to take it, they can get O lineman later in the draft.
