It's got to be either Treylon Burks or Garrett Wilson. Jameson Williams won't be the pick at 10 because of the torn ACL.
At 10, only one should be in play. Jahan Dotson can give you exactly what Garrett Wilson can. He is my pick but don't think he drops to round 2. We will get a look at him at Senior Bowl.
Which one has the smallest learning curve and a high ceiling? That's the guy I'd take at 10 and Wilson fits that criteria to a t.
When I just started the process of looking at these WRs, Burks was not on the radar as far as top 10 pick, as I was worried he may be similar to Mims, given route running was concern for both, plus stats on surface were similar and both are tall fast guys. However, upon closer look, it's not even close. I am actually not surprised Mims sucks now given further analysis. He was a high risk high reward prospect, which is why he was not a first round talent, unlike Burks. Physical attributes are there for Mims, and he provided steady productivity, but even in his last year, a 22 year old senior, he had some major deficiencies as compared to Burks now, who is a year younger than Mims at the time of respective drafts. - Mims had hard time getting open in College. Had to make a lot of contented catches, and wasn't really all that great at doing it. Does not seem to be an issue for Burks. - Much lower % of targets caught than Burks (58% compared to class leading 74% for Burks). - Drop rate of almost 10%, double that of Burks (5.8). - Mims fumbled the ball twice. Hard to say if it is a pattern, but Burks in contrast hasn't fumbled at all. - Yards after catch are just 2.8, compared Burks 9.3. - Didn't play much as a freshman, and has not improved from sophomore year to senior, while Burks has grown every year until declaring as a Jr Overall, the reason why I bring up Burks in the context of Mims is because Burks is likely to become what JD was hoping Mims has a chance to become when he drafted him, because Burks for the reasons above is a much better prospect, who has the same athletic traits as Mims. Combine testing will show that his athleticism is off the charts, and he has great speed as well. To me that gives the best upside of anyone in the draft, aside from perhaps Jameson Williams, who is out for a while with torn ACL, and I don't think will go top 10.- certainly not to the Jets. Even floor I feel is also not that low. We are definitely not talking about anywhere near as high a risk as Mims.
If that many WR's have 1st Round grades, and Joe Douglas wants one, it would not surprise me to see a trade down there. I don't know much about this year's class, but I do like Wilson and Burks.
They shouldn't target a WR. There are many WR's that can be selected in later rounds. They could also target a WR in FA if they desire a true number 1 receiver. This draft should be all about them getting an OL and probably trading down because they have so many needs. More than anything what would help ZW the most is fixing the OL and the running game. A RG, Center, FB, and a RB would officially catapult both of those positional groups into FINISHED products. That is the BEST way to help Zach. Build the fence in front of him and give him a productive running game to rely on and Zachs confidence will go up exponentially. We already have a few very good WR's in Davis and Moore. Just them getting healthy will help Zach a great deal.....
I was all in on Wilson until I saw some burks - samuels comps. And oh man I want one of those for this offense
I know Max has comp'd Burks to Deebo as have a couple other draft analysts on Twitter. I imagine Burks being used on end arounds and that little "shovel" pass off a jet motion.
The sweeps and reverses are possible. I just don't think he's going to succeed as a straight up RB, but I could be wrong. As a pure WR, Wilson is most likely to have a year 1 impact with room to grow. That's how I see it anyway.
Wilson would be my preferred choice. I think he's the most polished receiver prospect in this class by a considerable margin. He catches balls all over the field - outside, in the middle, deep, short, intermediate. He's got great hands and leaping ability. He almost always catches with his hands, not body. He attacks the ball in the air and is a naturally fluid athlete. Burks looks great on paper but I'm not sold on his quickness. He's got good top end speed but I'm not sure he's sudden enough to create separation in the NFL and I don't think he's big enough to get by purely on size like a Mike Evans type.
I believe Arky used him similarly to Deebo and he does similar stuff to what ML did with our WR’s. Plus the size and speed combo. He’s not DK fast, maybe a tick below but dude is such a tantalizing prospect, and the Jets need a big bodied guy who can win contested balls, and one where Wilson can say, “go get it”.
There are about 5 with first round grades - but non of them have top 10 grades so it would be a reach for any of them at 10, except maybe Wilson.
Currently torn between Wilson and Burks. I'll have to do more research and see if anything of note comes up during the pre-draft process. Love the size and skillset of Burks, but Wilson seems like a complete receiver so I'm not trying to not undervalue him because he's 6-0/5-11. Either way, seems like there are a lot of good prospects in this draft.
