With all of the talk about drafting a WR, RB, or QB in the first round, I'm wondering what will happen on the OL. It only takes a quick peek at the active roster to realize that we need some help there - especially considering the fact that we're almost certainly going to have an inexperienced QB behind center. It would be nice to have some more playmakers on offense, but if the QB is on his back all day that won't much matter.

Being that my knowledge of the draft is miniscule compared to a lot of folks here, I'm wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to when in the draft the Jets might address this need and who might be the players they would go after. And finally, although it's never a sexy pick, does anyone think we might be surprised and see the Jets go OL at #17?

To much money to invest in a round 1 pickup earliest I see Jets going OL is 4th round. Unless someone falls in our laps BPA and all.

Well we have starters in place, but depth is needed very badly. Look for OL to be picked in the 3rd or later rounds.

A team with just a couple needs to get over the top doesn't draft for depth.

Stupid teams never draft linemen. Part of the reason I'd welcome a trade back is so we can shore up our depth at OL and DL.

 Yes, yes they do. A team that drafts for depth, gets their team over the top.

I don't mind the idea of spending a 2nd or 3rd rounder on a depth OL, unless they can somehow get a steal in the first... but that is a lot of money invested in your O-line.

Any team that wants to compete at a high level in the NFL constantly drafts for depth. Solid rotations are what keeps teams competing in the post-season.

And this is why depth in the trenches is a good option for the Jets at this point. The couple of needs they have to get over the top are Peyton Manning and DeMarcus Ware and neither of those are happening.

I say we trade down in the draft pick up another pick in the 2nd or 3rd round, this way we can pick up a decent RB in the middle rounds and address OL and DL on day 2.

I feel like with the potential of clowney and stuckey as well as D keller and cotchery we will have a solid recieving core.

Lets face it leon cannot handle being a full time back, and Thomas Jones is 30 and unhappy with his current contract. Why put money into Jones who did i mention is 30, when we can invest similar or less money in a promising rookie.

My wish for the draft is Minnesota wanting to move ahead of TB for Freeman and us grabbing their 2nd or 3rd in the deal.

I think this is where trading away draft picks has ended up hurting the Jets. Specifically, depth and cheap depth at that.

While the Jets have selected some great players moving up in the draft, their volume yield is not that high. As I mentioned yesterday only about 20 players on the Jets roster were drafted by the Jets. Now I am not exactly sure where that falls among all NFL teams, but I have to believe it is in the bottom half to bottom third.

I guess that is why building a solid football team is not an easy task. You want to have great starters, but you need quality depth as well, especially in the era of free agency.

We need depth and youth on both lines at this point. Rounds 2-4 would be perfect for picking up quality depth. 5-7 are more project players with a much lower rate of panning out. I would love to adress the O-line in round 3 with a guy that can handle both Guard or tackle duties.

I don't think we need to worry about our starting OL for 2009, but we definitely need to start thinking about post 2009. I think we need to pick up a Guard in the first 3 rounds in this years draft.

I forget the exact number, but I read a quote from Tannenbaum recently that the Jets have given up 13 picks and acquired 13 picks through trades over the past 3 years. I was surprised to read that because I thought we'd given up a lot more than we acquired.

I'm not too keen on players in the later rounds (4th-7th). However there are a few players I really like. Not too sure when they're projected to be picked, but if any of the following are there in the 3rd round (after picking up a WR and RB), I'd be really happy if they get picked up.

For OL, I like Max Unger but I doubt he lasts as long as the 3rd round (or at least til we pick). Very versatile player that can play Tackle and Center successfully and consistently. Smart player that will read and pick up blitzes pretty well. Unfortunately, I think the Patriots will take him in the 2nd round.

For DL, I'd like Ron Brace. Able to play the run well and can draw double-teams at times. Big frame that will compliment Jenkins really well and keep him fresh to go the full distance throughout the season.

Yeah, this is my take, too. Our offensive line is robust enough that any QB should have a fighting chance. I think we woll pick up some depth possibly in round 4, 6 or 7, plus undrafteds.

No love for Robert Turner, Stanley Daniels, Wayne Hunter and Mike Kracalick? I really am just asking... I have no idea if they are any good. I would like a TJ lang pick but I don't know if we have enough picks to grab him in the first 4 rounds...

I like Ron Brace as well, but I doubt he will be available when we pick.
I'm starting to think that maybe the safest pick for us in this draft is a linemen

I agree with the fact that we have a good starting OL, I just hate to think that one major injury to a starter could leave us with a huge weak spot.
