OK first of let me put it out that this is MY opinion for what I would like to see happen with this team in the offseason. Feel free to correct me, or post something that you would like to see different.

RB: This is in my opinion the most needed position on our team at this moment. For at least next season I believe that it would be best to get a RB off of the Free Agents. We need to draft a RB but we need one in the early rounds and we have way too many needs to spend a 1st or 2nd on a RB when there's a couple good ones possibly going into the FA. My top two that I know of right now are Steven Jackson, and Reggie Bush. We don't seem to look at the good RBs in the later rounds (Morris, Miller) so we need to get one first or second round but it can wait a year.

WR: Same thing with Hill and Kerley hopefully getting the hang of things we can find a good WR on the FA and we'll have a pretty good WR set. Plus we need to develop the young WRs we already have before we draft any more.

OL: If there's anyone that would be an upgrade over what we have now, go after em.

Now I'm not saying to go out and get the best available at these 3 positions but to go out and get the most we can.

    Onto the Draft.
It's obvious that we need an OLB if not two. But, watching Geno Smith play and with our QB struggling, you have to think about the future. (And I'm a Sanchez guy). I would love Geno here.
If Sanchez does step it up then we can get the best possible OLB. There's a couple good ones coming out.

2nd Round: If we get Geno first round then we get best available OLB. If we already got an OLB first round then we eather can get another LB or an OG, OT or even a SS. (This is assuming that we already fixed our RB position if not we can get a RB 2nd.

Other Picks: We get best available players at positions of need. If we do get Geno then we should get LBs 2nd and 3rd. Later rounds I would say best available.

What do ya think? Agree disagree? Comment!

i would not touch either of bush or jackson.one will want big money and the other is too old.
as far as the draft. find a dynamic rb. a game breaker that can be the focus of this offense.

Quick comment: Reggie Bush while brilliant at times is prone to injury. You saw this both the good and the bad in the Miami game. Steven Jackson while a quality back, what makes you think the Rams would part with him? He would cost a lot of money and goes back to buying older names instead of developing our own talent.

Overall the draft is a daunting challenge. So many needs to fill not enough picks. In the past we have traded away picks to move up. While it seems appealing moving up and getting a name it puts a lot eggs in one basket. Keep doing that and keep missing you end up where we are.

It would be really nice to see the Jets find a Ray Rice caliber player in the 2nd round. In today's NFL you have to have either a great QB or a dynamic two-way threat out of the backfield. Offenses just don't work well when there's not a great player lined up somewhere in the backfield.

They agreed yesterday to let him out of the final year in his deal; that said he is a shell of his formar self. I could see him being a 10-12 carry a game guy, but kind of goes against the logic of him getting out of the final year. He will sign a decent deal and be hurt by week 5, as the team who signs him will try to feed him the rock 15-20 a game; his body cant take that anymore.

Jackson is going to be 30 next season and his 3rd carry of the year will be number 2200 for his career. There's just no way he's a good buy under those conditions. He's a wipeout waiting to happen.

You lost me when you said "I think it would be best to go RB in free agency"... It cant wait until next year, assuming we are talking about 2014. We need a RB now. We cant go out and overpay an aging RB with lots of injuries and get screwed a year or two down the road with injures.

Marcus Lattimore 1st round, Stepfan Taylor, Leveon Bell (REALLY think he would be a good fit here), Joseph Randle or Giovani Bernard in the 2nd-4th round range should be our targets. And if we are draft top 5 or 10 I wouldnt consider Lattimore; it would be if we were 14-25... Which I don't really see happening.

If we end up drafting top 5, I would love to see a draft which we tried in 09 but failed- Geno in the 1st, best OLB (DEEP class here), then Leveon Bell in the 3rd. A gamechanging player like Tavon Austin would do a lot for our offense too.

Address the linebacker problems. Get a decent RB, WR that can catch and have some speed.

Oh and QB. But not all these problems can be addressed in 1 off season.

The best thing the Jets could do this off-season is forget that free agency exists other than re-signing the players that they have and do not want to lose.

Buying a prime free agent over the age of 26 is like buying a great big blob of cotton candy. It tastes good on the tongue but then a minute later it is gone and your wallet is still light what you paid for it.

If you buy a 26 year old who is not a QB then it's like buying an all-day sucker. You get to taste it longer but you probably didn't help the team win a Super Bowl in the process.

Assuming the pieces are there I'd go RB and OG early in the draft. Then also sign an OG, Slauson and Moore are out. Defensively we need to redo the whole LB core.

I'm hoping some people find a new team to root for.

I agree that they should mostly forget about free agency, but it could be used just to get some cheap players if the do it right and dont give them long, huge contracts. The big splash FA moves should be no where in the FO's mind.

Signing a player like Martellus Bennett would be a good move (assuming the Giants don't) if it was a reasonable deal and only 3 years or so... This is something they should have done last year though.

thats what I said we need to take care of the offense this draft and free agency period and then worry about the defense in 2014 when there's like 5 or 6 legit pass rushers coming out. We're going no where fast might as well slam on the brakes

Thats being said if we're picking in the top 5 and Geno is gone

either take Justin Hunter in the 1st and take Tyler Bray in the 2nd, he's gonna fall due to weight and slight mechanic issues along with shaky mechanics but the skill is there he just needs to be groomed and develop him, maybe hire Chad as the QB coach and groom Bray and let him grow with Hill/Hunter/Kerley as his 1-3 and bring back Jordan White as the back up slot and add 1 more big receiver.

We can get a RB later on Michael Dyer will be there maybe Joseph Randle as well in the 3rd. Ducasse will replace Slauson or Moore most likely so we dont need an O-Line early. I like Howard at RT he's getting better everyday. At TE grab Joseph Fauria in the 4th who's a decent all around TE to groom in our offense

In the 5th grab a developmental pass rusher like Devin Taylor to add some youth to the D and then grab some O-Line and filler guys in the 6th and 7th

Our new offense would look like

QB- Tyler Bray with Chad grooming him
RB- Bilal Powell and Joseph Randle
    FB- John Conner
    WR- Justin Hunter
    WR- Stephen Hill
    Slot- Jeremy Kerley
    TE- Joseph Fauria/Hayden Smith(will get a shot)
    Line- Brick/Ducasse/Mangold/Slauson/Howard

    @Jeti

You really want to put a rookie on the field at QB next season after what we just went through?

Unless the guy is the #1 overall pick with a rep like Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck I want no part of putting a rookie on the field from day one ever again.

Assuming things keep going the way they are going I would look for a new RB, preferably drafted pretty high, and hopefully add some WR help as well. Our offense needs the most work by far. Giving Sanchez a good finesse-style RB will open up the play action and he's not bad in play action...of course he needs a WR help as well since he has hardly anyone to throw to, so need to at least look at improving there as well.

I would sacrifice improving on the defensive side in order to dramatically improve the offense. No point in tweaking the defense a little bit but leaving the offense so bad. If you had to give a ratio of the strength of our offense to the strength of our defense out of ten I would go something like 8/2 or at best 7/3 with defense > offense obviously. Try to get that a little bit closer to 5/5 or 6/4 in favor of defense.

People hoping to sign the #1 free agent WR/RB/anything really are out to lunch as it won't happen. We might get a few depth linemen and whatnot via free agency but that's about it, IMO.

Draft Marcus Lattimore or Le'Veon Bell in the first round to be a big feature back. Make Shonn Greene a goal line/short yardage back. Either convert Joe McKnight to another position or trade him.

Look for a Percy Harvin or a Dwayne Bowe type talent (guy with good hands in the prime of his career) to sign at wide receiver who is no longer under contract. If you can't, make a trade.

Draft a linebacker and an offensive lineman in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, depending on who's out there and how the draft is going. Get another o-lineman, linebacker, blocking tight end, and safety on Day 3.

Keep Sanchez one more year. His contract is designed that way, there's plenty of other holes to fill, and you'll have enough young guys with experience around after 2013 to put a young quarterback in a good situation if things keep going south.
