Before you answer...Consider these things - Do NOT say "Jets passing on _____ for ______ in the draft"...Anyone can blow draft picks, it is common in the NFL -Base your answers on trades, free agency, contracts, player cuts, waiver wire activity I know Jets have some real winners in selections with Gholston, Blair Thomas, Lam Jones, Nagle, etc... What do you guys think is the worst player move? __ Personally, I try to keep up with my Jets history and even now, I still think letting John Riggins go in free agency is the worst player move the franchise ever made. Riggins was among the top ten rushers in the American Football Conference in 1974 despite missing four games with a shoulder injury.[9] After only four years with the Jets, he was already the fourth leading rusher in team history with 2,875 yards.[9] In 1975, Riggins became the first player in franchise history to rush for 1,000 or more yards in a season.[11] On December 21, 1975, he ran for 121 yards against the Dallas Cowboys which gave him 1,005 for the season.[11] In what turned out to be his last season with the Jets, Riggins made his only appearance in the Pro Bowl.[5] Riggins was named the Jets' MVP (now known as the Martin Award) in 1972 and 1975. In 1976, Riggins signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins,[5] who offered him a four-year, $1.5 million contract, compared to the $75,000 he earned in his final year with the Jets.[13] He was used mostly in short-yardage situations in his first season with Washington and missed much of the 1977 season with a knee injury.[13] However, he gained more than 1,000 yards each of the next two seasons and was a major part of the Redskins' offense. He would go on to win the Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP, and go into the Pro Football Hall of fame. The Sanchez extension and the Tebow trade are both good candidates. For me, trading a first for Doug Jolley is still the worst. Edit: Oakland parlayed that pick, 26th overall, into the 23rd pick and acquired Fabian Washington, while Chris Spencer (C) ended up being picked at 26 by Seattle. That year, the Jets drafted future HOFers Mike Nugent and Justin Miller in the second round.
Which would be worse for the Jets? Losing Wilkerson if we can't re-sign him or signing him to a $100 million dollar 6 year extension with $40 million in guarantees?
The move I think is most likely to qualify when compared to the Riggins fiasco is the huge contract the Jets gave to Neil O'Donnell in 1996. 1-15 after that.
I remember thinking it happening around April 1st, and thinking it was a joke. Gotta admit, Jolley is kind of a trolly name, right?
Sorry for breaking your rule, but when the entire room was chanting "We want Sapp!" and the Jets chose Brady... That's embarrassing.
The Tebow trade is minor in the history of the franchise. All it cost them was a 4th round pick for a failed experiment. Hardly the worst player move the Jets have ever made. Not even the worst if we have to focus on the last 5 years only! Riggins the worst, thanks Poeman, O'Donnell signing was a good nomination, thanks Bradway, I'll throw in trading Revis, trading the no.1 overall pick (and missing out on Orlando Pace in 97), giving that big contract to Holmes, the bradway jolley trade.... thanks for this thread on the eve of the offseason shuffle Poeman talk about good vibes
Remember Petro created a sub-forum for the Tebow transplants? One of the weirdest era's in TGG history.
