Interesting article and a few things I didn't know. It also appears to be a given that they will. "Teams like the Jaguars would welcome the elimination of the salary cap because it would mean they no longer were required to pay the salary floor, which is 85.2 percent of the cap -- $116 million vs. $98.8 million. The floor rises 1.2 percent per year until it reaches 90 percent. Individual teams under the "model" sports league are losing money despite all the wealth in the NFL. If there is no cap, a team such as Jacksonville can stop having $100 million payrolls and go the way of baseball's Pirates if they like in order to survive." "When they vote to opt out of the CBA in November, there would be no cap for the 2010 season and the last draft would be held in 2011." http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08089/868971-66.stm
If that happened...I'm pretty sure another league would be formed (AFL part deux?), and a lot of the star power of the NFL would shift over time. Without a salary cap and a draft, this league would lose some appeal. They'll figure something out. No salary cap = the Dallas Cowboys becoming the New York Yankees of football. Jerry Jones' wallet would dominate.
there will be an agreement for the draft either way...the league will not fall through...its just a matter of if any deal includes a salary cap obviously Washington and Dallas would be big fans...b/c they use to dominate in the days before the salary cap NY is a big market and money making team...so the Jets and Giants would likely be top 5 or at least top 10 spenders but on a side note that i have said before...it makes the spending in free agency right now meaningless also...b/c even if a new salary cap is made it will be significantly higher like the one for last year was meaning there is no chance of cap hell in the near future
If the salary cap is eliminated...I'd like to see another league form. They wouldn't come close to competing with the NFL at first, but a few big time college players would eventually cross over. The NFL's best team vs. the new league's best team in an ultimate championship would be very exciting. I'd much rather the NFL stay the lone pro football league, but if this happens...A lot of cities like Los Angeles, Toronto, San Antonio, and Orlando could support teams. It's a pipe dream.
Yea who needs parody, why dont we just have like 5 good teams and then all the other ones are like AAA teams. ARE YOU SERIOUS???
