Granted im sure we got figured out.......alot since the first 4 weeks of the season, but still, where have they gone? Even against the saints we were coming at them like madmen from all different angles of the field and throwing off the offense. We played miami and got raped when we tried blitzing and ever since then we dont seem to blitz as much and they certainly are not nearly as exotic. Yesterdays game seemed rather devoid of any of foreign/exotic blitz packages although I was at the game and sometimes im just trying to follow the ball rather than read the defense, so I could be wrong but i remember a lot of 4 man rushes. (which by the way were very weak, perhaps why the defensive line coach "resigned") Any thoughts on this?
The blitz packages are still there, the Jets just don't use them that often. Not sure why they've become more cautious but I'm fairly sure they're doing that on purpose and probably have a valid reason for it.
We lost Jenkins. Rex and Pettine had to change where the pressure was coming from since Pouha cannot command the same OLine respect. We're rushing a lot more with a 4-3 look.
Things started to get vanilla when we lost the two CB's. The Jets stopped blitzing when Lowery and Coleman were the guys back there instead of Sheppard and Strickland.
that and Rex surely looks at the film and notes that for whatever reason our guys can't seem to tackle...successful blitzing requires complete faith in your guys to tackle in one-on-one situations..
teams are max protecting a lot and we arent getting in as many blitz situations.. Texans and Pats were one dimensional.. We didnt get any pressure on Collins or Brees in week 3 and 4.. .
It's a lot easier to blitz when you have a zero in the loss column then when you have a few losses and things start to get a little tighter under the collar. It made no sense for the Jets to go zone on the last drive when they'd been successful in similar situations agianst Brady and Collins throwing the blitz on the last drive.
Another thing people fail to mention, the Jags started the drive with 5:07 left in the game, this is not a for sure thing final drive so the run for them with Jones Drew was clearly still in play.. It wasnt a situation to just send the house every down in a 2 minute situation.
Every team that we play that has a good run game with the potential to burn us on long runs ; the Blitz package disappears! Its like we adjust by playing safe. If you saw the Pitt Denver game , how many times did they run on the right side and get massive chunks of yardage based on over pursuit or the Defense being out of position because of a blitzing down. The de-cordinator doesnt want to get caught out there! Guttless!
It's a combination of losing faith in the DT play being dominant and losing faith in the CB play with Sheppard's injuries/ineffectiveness.
Ty Law playing nickle back for the first time in his career also helped the Steelers there. A lot of their huge runs came when Law was out of position because he didn't know when to line up.
Another thing that has changed, Iremember hearing Scott's name all the time, now I don't. Not sure if he is getting to the QB aas much as he used too.
In the first half of the game, The Jets played a lot of zone and allowed Garrard to abuse Lowery in a similar fashion to how he had gotten abused last season. The Jets adjusted at the beginning of the second half and showed heavier rush packages and disrupted Garrard a lot, and were able to stall drives. The difference between the beginning of the game and the middle of the game were that they were giving Lito a chance to ease into the game. Once Lito was playing more snaps, they blitzed the hell out of the Jags.
Yea, im sorry but lowery is absolutely brutal. This guy needs to be used only in certain situations. Nickelback, I suppose, he gets burnt one on one at corner all the time.
