Chad is completely unreliable in terms of staying healthy and Ramsey is not talented enough to lead us in the long term. If we DON'T draft a quarterback, we are going to have a glaring weakness at the most important position on the field. WE NEED TO DRAFT A QUARTERBACK! Forget this talk about Williams and D Brick. We HAVE TO have a QB.
We don't HAVE TO draft a QB in the 1st round. We can draft Mario Williams or D'Brick and still get a good QB in the 3rd or 4th round
GUY, it doesnt matter if we put Payton back there. If he doesnt have the line in front of him, or line that can open holes for the ground game, we are dead in the water...ala last year. With that said, we will be able to pick up 3 quality linemen in the later rounds, but IMO we can afford to draft a QB. We need to use that pick to leverage more picks (I hope we do that) or get a guy like Williams or Hawk, to make the D a top 7 D in the NFL.
I think the front office knows what they are doing...Ramsey might be the long term answer but i'm sure they will get insurance in case he isn't.
Fine. Who do you want, and how do you propose we get him. I'd be pleased with Brodie Croyle in the third round. I wouldn't mind Charlie Whitehurst either. I don't like taking Jay Cutler with #4, and I don't know, I'm just not sold on Vince Young, but I pin-down why. I might be biased toward pure pocket passers, because we've seen what happens to a guy like Michael Vick when you take away his run - he loses. He loses ugly.
I agree. It starts with the QB and we will be in position to get a QB. We might not be in this situation again. Get the QB when you get the chance.
QB's I'm not a stat guy but can anyone list the 1st round QB's that led there teams to the Super Bowl? I know Big Ben & Aikman but who else? Does it really start with the QB, IMO no, he's just another part of the equation.
Brodie croyle, charlie whitehurst, omar jacobs who id like. if we really do want a qb it can be done.
No matter what QB you put back there now, whether it be Pennington or a rookie, it will be a train wreck without an OL. You build the foundation of a house before you put the fancy furniture in it. Without a line, Pennington will surely get injured again and you could ruin any rookie (see David Carr). Besides, I'm not sold that any of the big three are the answer. I don't want Leinart - he is the product of superior talent at USC, has had shoulder and arm injuries (do we want more of that?) does not have a not strong arm, etc. Young is all or nothing and too much of a risk. Cutler is talented, but still question.
I doubt Aikman took the Cowboys to the super bowl as a rookie. In fact, I think his rookie year Steve Walsh had the teams only win or close to it..
If it's all 1st round picks that made it to the Super Bowl and not won one then Marino, McNair, Bledsoe, Eason, Kelly, McNabb all get added...I know i have to be missing some
"Bradshaw, Namath, Elway, Staubach, Plunkett," Thanks for the info, I believe that accounts for about 1/3 of the Super Bowls. The others must have been flukes.
Two words - Trent Dilfer. These two words either make or blow apart your point. Phil Simms. Jim McMahon. Steve Young (supplemental draft) If we're including 1st Round QB's who made it to the Superbowl, but didn't win, you'd have to include Drew Bledsoe, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Tony Eason, Donovan McNabb, Steve McNair. I'm sure there are more.
I forgot about Dilfer and wasn't sure about McMahon and Simms. I also don't know about Starr and Len Dawson.
Absolutely right, the question is do any of the big three grade out as franchise QB warranting our pick at #4? If they do and we don't take one it will be an incredibly dumb move. If they just don't like Leinart, Young or Cutler than I can see passing.
