Both Ivory and Powell are free agents. I thought it was odd that we didn't draft a RB in the mid rounds last year to develop.
Actually, sounds about right. The possibility of a cheap FA lookingt o play with a chip on his shoulder is good. Tomlinson or Ivory type that comes here with somethingt o prove.
Powell and draft… Ivory is a half season man, not worth a big payday…. some lesser team will probably throw some bucks at him, i wouldn't match it
all you can do really. the question is do you resign old reliable, jack of all trades master of none powell or the more powerful but less dependable ivory? i would resign powell, more tread on the tires, good hands. look to get a bruiser in f.a and a game breaker in the draft
RBs need less developing than any other position. It's the easiest position for a rookie to come in, start and play at a high level. Usually their ability to pick up blitzes (or lack thereof), is the key as to how soon they see the field unless there is a topflight incumbent already at the position.
I had forgotten that Ivory, Powell and Ridley are ALL UFAs next year. The list of FA RBs looks less than inspiring to me. The only RB I see on that list I'd like for the Jets to have other than Ivory and/or Powell is Doug Martin. I'd like to keep both Ivory and Powell, but if we can keep only one, I hope we keep Powell. That will mean we'll need to draft a RB and sign a UDFA RB or cheap veteran. Depending upon the cap space and what happens with Wilkerson, next season could be very interesting and we could see a LOT of new faces again. Overall, the Jets have 20 UFAs: Fitz, Wilkerson, Pace, Snacks, Powell, Ivory, Jarrett, Ridley, Douzable, Walls, Bowen, Colon, Davis, Lattimore, Ijalana, Allen, Henderson, Davis, Owusu and Bullock. That's a big chunk of our DL, practically our whole RB corps and ILB corps. Hopefully, Stacy won't be back, either. Thank God we have Harris. I hope that Lattimore and Henderson will be re-signed.
Draft one in rounds 3-5. Sign Powell since Ivory will probably command more money than he's worth in FA. Then maybe add a veteran FA.
Obviously, we'll sign LeSean McCoy after the Bills surprisingly release him, haven't you been paying attention? Then the Bills will spiral into a 2 win season and Rex will be fired, and take a broadcasting job. Some Bills fans are the last to learn.
a lot of free agent running backs this off-season - hopefully you can get one for a cap friendly deal like Doug Martin, Lamar Miller, or CJ Anderson. You definitely stay far away from the Matt Fortes.
I don't think he will be around for the Jets, but maybe Josh Ferguson from Illinois would be available for the Jets. He is similar to Bilal Powell but has 4.48 speed and can be used as a WR if need be in Gaileys 5 receiver set.
This is shaping up to be one hell of an upcoming off season; I'm already hyped waiting to see all the cool stuff I know Mac will pull off. I hope we manage to slide into the playoffs first, so we fans can put off all that hard thinking for a while.
Lamar Miller is the guy to go after. Totally underutilized in Miami. Good runner and good in the passing game. Could be a little costly but he'll be worth it cause the RB's in the draft are garbage. Elliott is going to be Clarett 2.0 and Henry will be Brandon Jacobs at best. Neither will be worth their draft positioning.
This. If Fitz is going to be our QB next season, then being able to stuff the blitz will be his #1 issue. If he can't pick up the blitz, he will NEVER see the field.
