Taking both recent and past history into account, how would you rank the Jets rivalries since their inception?

    I'd put it like this:

    1. Pats
    2. Phins
    3. Giants (more of a hometown rivalry for fans, exposure, etc. than a football one)
    4. Colts
    5. Raiders

Miami is a very close #2 given how Marino was the bane of this team for so many years, along with the South Florida-NY connection. I know a lot of oldtimers might but Miami in the top spot, but the Dolphins have sucked royally over the last decade so they're knocked down a peg in my book.

Pats have only recently taken the #1 spot the way I see it. Even if they haven't been the historical rivals that Miami has been, the Belichick/Parcells crap and the constant divisional battles over the last decade eclipsed just about everything to do with the Jets-Dolphins rivalry in terms of intensity. Throw in their tainted dynasty (Spygate) and the rest is history. I don't know what it is, but I've always gotten a thrill out of beating the Pats in a way I can't describe for my other teams. It prolly has to do with the fact that Brady and Belichick are such scumbags more than anything else but who knows.

    dollfags. hands down.

i dont equate being second fiddle which we have been for the better part of the last decade as a part of a rivalry. we need to beat those douches eventually but it will never be the same as the dolphins.

yes we have beaten the dolls quite a bit, and that makes me very very happy. i dont want them to start beating us to revive the rivalry. let them suck forever, they are the jets hated enemy. HATED.

while its annoying to see all these patsy fans come out of the woodwork the past 10 years they will quickly go back once the brady run is over, which it is at this point so they wont be around for much longer. the dollfag fans on the other hand in those gay ass teal uniforms that are all over new york incense me. how do you become a phin fan in the northeast? its gotta be the color.

hate em, hands down no other team compares with the fins. none. other teams will come and go as far as dislike for them... the dollfags i hope lose every game every season, season after season until the franchise folds. hate em!

It starts with the five former and/or current division rivals-
    Patriots
    Dolphins
    Bills
    Colts
    Oilers

After that, you can go with the other AFL teams that aren't covered above (Raiders, Chiefs, Bengals, Broncos, Chargers).

Yeah I didn't really know who to put in that #4 spot at first, but I figured the Colts would fit well considering it's just a great classic AFL rivalry. And of course SBIII has a lot to do with it.

I considered Buffalo as well, but there was really only a 5 year stretch in which they were any good or consistently better than us. Otherwise, I think of them as the #3 team in NY (moreso due to location than anything else, but still).

I think we've beaten the Pats plenty in the last couple of years.

You kind of have to put the Bills in the top five. No team has defeated the Jets more often than have the Buffalo Bills.

Jets top five opponents by number of games played (Jets record in parentheses)-
    1. Patriots- 101 (51-49-1)
    2. Bills- 100 (47-53)
    3. Dolphins- 90 (47-42-1)
    4. Colts- 66 (26-40)
    5. Oilers/Titans- 39 (17-21-1)

    1. Pats - they are the team we are banging heads with for the division and possibly the conference.

    2. Dolphins - long time rivals with alot of history in this series.

    3. Bills - Right now its only because they are in our division but if they get their act together and we start playing them in big divisional games the hatred between the teams will pick up.

Never considered the Giants a rival, different divisions and conferences make them just another team to me.

There is nobody else to consider IMHO.

Giants definitely were a huge rival, but they're becoming just as irrelevant as the Bills now.

There's the Patriots and the Dolphins. We're developing a pretty nice rivalry with the Steelers, but until the Bills decide they want to compete again, that's pretty much it.
As an 80s kid, I'll always hate the Dolphins first. But....it felt oh so good to win that playoff game this year in Foxboro. It really did.

yeah we have but we are 9 and 15 against them since 2000 and they have won 8 division titles to our 1 in that period.

it definitely helps to move along a rivalry but i just dont ever think the patriots will be as big of rivals as teh dolphins. prior to the last 10 years you felt bad for the patsies because they sucked, had a horrible stadium and a fanbase that barely cared. i am confident they will end up back at that point in the near future. other than the stadium.

Some years ago I wasn't aware about divisional rivalries.
In the 80's/90's I hated the Pats, the Bills, the Giants (49ers, Raiders, Cowboys, Skins) just because... maybe no reason at all, I just hated them, their colors, their logos, their names, whatever. I didn't disliked the dolphins back then.
When I learned about divisional/city rivalries it was good that I already hated some of the natural enemies; all I had to do was to learn to hate the dolphins which wasn't any hard at all.

I think the media tries to hype the Jets/Giants rivalry up the way they do the Yanks/Mets. But to me it just isn't there. Ask any Jet fan who they wanted to win the SB between the Giants/Pats. All the Jet fans I knew(friends/co-workers) wanted the Giants.

    Couple things...

I agree with the Cakes list, but I would put either the Raiders or Giants ahead of the Oilers.

Also, how the fuck do we have a losing record against the Bills? They've been absolute shit for more than a decade.

The Steelers have an argument for top 5 rival as well

    1. Pats- Became a big Jets fan during the 2000s.
    2. Dolphins- Historic rivalry and if I read one more article comparing Henne to Sanchez I will punch an elderly nun in the face.
    3. Raiders- Rich Gannon ended our season a few times.
    4. Colts

I think it has alot to do with how long you've been following the Jets.
I'm guessing that most of the older posters would say the 'Phins are the top of the tree, but as of late, most younger fans list the Pats as public enemy #1.

    1 - Phins
    2 - Pats
    3 - Bills
4 - Colts (Mainly because of PM)
    5 - Chargers
    6 - Raiders
    7 - Cowboys
    8 - Vikings
    9 - Broncos
    10 - Eagles

    Least hated team, G'men.

Gus, you don't fit the Steelers into that top 10, at all? I think you have to at this point.

I would also say that we are starting to do this with the colts as well. As long as we continue to play the same teams in the postseason, rivalries will develop.

In addition to the Pats and Phins, I would think we could add the Raiders to the list of non-division teams (behind Pitt and Indy) and then maybe even add in the Chargers. If we meet them in the playoffs again, shit will go down, be sure of it.

my order I guess would be,

    1. Pats

    2. Phins

    3. Steelers
    4. Colts

    5. Raiders

    6. Chargers

    7. Bills (but like others have said, if they ever get their shit together, they would climb the list because of the divisional rivalry seems to rule all).
