Last Christmas day with the Jets on tap, Belicheck calls his TE Asante Cleveland who was enjoying Christmas dinner with the O-line, and cans him. Beli says they need DB help against the Jets and they need his roster spot. Adios. Beli was right to worry....as his Pats would lose the game AND home field advantage on this play: enjoy the good memories! http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ick-cut-tight-christmas-day-article-1.2924587 "He was like, "Hey Asante. It's Belichick." He said, "We're going to have to make some roster moves." At that point, I knew what "roster moves" means. It means I'm being moved from the roster. We needed to bring in a cornerback because we were playing the Jets. He said, "I just want to let you know this is no indication we're moving away from you. We really like you. ... We just need to make this quick transaction." That call ended. I said, "Merry Christmas." I don't know if he heard me. He didn't say it back."
It's hard to imagine that this pile of shit team that we are exposed to now was once 10-5 last year... I guess playing with heart and confidence masks a lot of deficiencies.
Too many Jets came into camp this year looking to take a victory lap. I think the biggest problem was Darrelle Revis not being in shape and obviously not playing at a high level even in camp. However the Mo Wilk contract was an issue also alongside Sheldon Richardson's serial misbehavior and the Fitzpatrick fiasco was just kind of the cherry on top of it all. Then you have the merc vet problem, where the Jets signed a bunch of mid to late career vets to play key roles. That can hurt a weak locker room and this was what happened with the Jets. You can't treat your roster like a cyclical event that is going to go up and down every few years with an infusion of veteran talent to reach the peak. The Jets have been doing this since at least 2007 and arguably 2001 and they have bottomed a bit lower in each cycle along the way. Build the roster and the wins will come. Try to cheat the system by overpaying vets and you get what happened in 2005, 2007, 2011 and this year. Fat, aging, overpaid players don't do any better at their jobs than fat, aging, overpaid employees in any other industry.
Good analysis.... Biggest 2016 problems with the team: Offense: Decker going on IR killed the FitzMagic. Gone was the dynamic duo teams couldn't cover, with some unknown kid with a fun name to pronounce as 3rd WR. We never got our O off the ground like 2015. Fitz was pushing just a bit to hard to overcome the loss of Decker. Defense: Fat, out of shape, overpaid Darrell Revis killed our secondary playing 15-20 yards off EVERY WR giving up big play after big play. Our putrid secondary doomed the entire defense. Defense: Losing Snacks in the middle was absolutely HUGE, perhaps Mac's biggest blunder as a GM. Letting the NFL's top NT walk away from your 3-4 defense so you can re-sign a DE we didn't even need was a huge mistake....UGE!. Love him or hate him, this is one mistake Rex would NEVER have made. Defense: MoWilk came back fat and slow. Watch some plays you can see him in. He has a huge beer gut you'd expect on a run stuffing nost tackle, not a fast/nimble sack machine DE. He looks like he gained 50 pounds, and it shows on the field. Man got paid. Man got lazy.
Mo wilk came in after breaking his leg in the last game of the year. watch the rebound next year from mo
We can only hope Mo comes into camp with a chip the size of a redwood log on his shoulder and helps Williams lock down the LOS for the Jets again. History is not on our side with this. Many DT's have declined dramatically after getting their big second contract. That's a mix of the incentives going down at the same time age and the injuries pileup. I really hope Mo is the exception and takes 2016 in stride instead of letting it become the new norm.
There was no way the Jets were able to pay the contract snacks got. It was just his time and the money wasn't there to retain him. Wilkerson came back from a broken leg and he didn't have the same explosiveness and drive like he had before then. I actually thought he FINALLY showed his skills against the Pats when I saw him explode and slip past their offensive line a few times. He will be back next year. The question is if you trade Sheldon, you go out and get a true NT so Wilkerson and Big Cat can go back to their true positions. Maybe Simon is that guy or someone on the roster at NT....not sure. At corner, Burris looks physical and maybe someone that can be a long term answer. But you still need more guys. I like Roberts, maybe Marcus stays, Skrine...I'm not sure about. I guess revis stays but just because he's owed 6 Mill next year anyway. I'd cut MG and grab a FS....maybe Baker in the draft. Pryor stays the SS. At LB, Lee gets stronger but bring in a vet MLB who will see he's playing behind some stud DE's. Jenkins stays, and bring in another OLB, Mauldin sticks as a situational pass rusher. Harris goes bye bye.
That was a great game last year. Loved it. Fitz to Decker to finish it: epic. Of course they blew it the next week against a terrible Bills team, but that is Jets football.
they blew it the next week against a terrible Bills team, but that is Jets football.[/QUOTE] That's a TB led team! !!!! ,,,Many posters miss those HIDDEN FLAWS last year called TODD BOWLES Whose sucky calls were made up for by playing that cream puff sched and Fitz having some luck with Decker It took a year but THE REAL BOWLES REALLY SHOWED UP Sad sad sad SMH at this forsaken Franchise that cant get it right GRRRRRRR
Gee what is the common denominator since 2001 that probably leads to this mentality? I completely agree with this
Mo won't have a chip on his shoulder to redeem himself as a football player, he doesn't care about that. But, next year is the last year of guaranteed money on his contract, so he might be motivated for other reasons. Hell if I care, just play good football.
I never was a fan of D'brick, but his loss can't be overlooked. At least he was steady, played every game. Clady wasn't the answer. Mac screwed up the LT position too.
How could you not be a fan of Brick? He missed like 1 snap in 10 years, was very good in his prime and was an excellent teammate start to finish To each their own I guess.
It may seem trivial, but the SOB was standing not 3 feet from my son who wanted his autograph. He denied him, but walked away to give it to some colored folk. I'm not prejudice, he sure seemed to be. His play at times, especially in the run game, wasn't over the top unless he had a killer guard next to him. Other than those two items, there isn't much bad to say about him. I'm sure our line suffered this season due to his departure.
