"Meanwhile, Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff told the Daily News he'd like to be considered for the job. He expressed his interest in a meeting earlier this week with Johnson.
"Why the hell wouldn't I be interested?" said Westhoff, one of the league's most respected special teams coaches. "I'm extremely qualified.""

I really hope they give him a good look...

If he wants it and his health is good enough to endure the stress, than I would do back flips over Westoff getting the job.

Special teams coaches make GREAT head coaches.

I'd take him over Brian Schottenheimer in a heartbeat. Unbelievable that they'd give Schott two interviews before they give him one.

He should have gotten it three years ago. The players flat out _play_ for him. Why wouldn't you make him head coach?

Hell yeah. He's the ONLY guy on the current CS I'd like to see as the HC.

This is what I've wanted for a while now. Westhoff would be perfect. The players respect him. He coaches with fire and emotion. It's no coincidence every year we have an excellent kick returner.

This is who our next coach should be be granted Rex Ryan is not our guy.

    I wouldn't have a problem with Westhoff.

Rex is the priority, but Westhoff would be a solid choice as well.

Hes a heck of a coach but his health should make him a big ??? alone. Besides I guess management wants to go young still.........

Westhoff already has the cane....he just needs the "Kramer pimp jacket"....and the sideline ensemble will be complete.

I'm just surprised we haven't heard about any interview lined up with him. Kinda pisses me off.

    Can you name a few?

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just flat don't know. I rarely hear of ST coaches becoming HCs.

    I'd be fine with Westhoff

The guy is a frickin warrior- anybody who can respond to a comment with "Why the hell wouldn't I be interested" and says "I'm extremely qualified" is the type of coach I want. There is no ST player that has not given 150% for Westhoff. I'd rather give Westhoff a shot than the billion retreads we're linked to.

    Marv Levy
Urban Meyer is the special teams coordinator at Florida.

    Just to name a couple.

Belichick started as ST I believe.
He has said before how being the St coach was invaluable in preparing him to be HC

Dick Vermiel and Marv Levy were also former ST coaches
