Of course, hindsight is 20-20 but... to think both Jeremy Beal AND Eric Haag could be had with our 2 7th rounder... And we passed on them for the likes of Greg McElroy and Scotty McKnight. I didn't like that sight at all - anybody else agree? P.S. True - it's 7th rounder, so chances are these guys might not stick. Still, I would have liked the LB and S position fortified as I considered these two prospects very capable of becoming NFL starting material.
McElroy might have been drafted but I do believe that McKnight was a waste of a draft pick that we might regret later.
I think if you are worrying about wasting 7th round draft picks you are worrying too much. The only pick I didnt like was taking a RB in the 4th, everything else I dont have an issue with or really liked.
Mcknight has glue for hands, he runs good routes and he produced on the college level. He is Colorado's all time leading receiver in every major category. He has poor measurables. Thats why he wasn't more highly thought of.
Most 5th - 7 rounders end up as slightly more valuable than a UDFA. THere is a reason they were there so late and I for one am not losing any sleep over those picks.
Years from now, this is going to come back to haunt us. First it was Sapp, now we pass on Haag, Tanny is a fucking moron.
Basically my thinking as well, we got two big nasty monsters up front and we got a guy who makes Brad Smith expendable and then we draft a guy in the 7th who allows Clemmons to be jettisoned. A lot other teams passed on these "potential starters" so there must be some reason why all the other GM's did as well.
