Can't wait to see this matchup. I'm not too worried about Lito "Pass Interference" Sheppard being able to cover Walter... If Schaub plays (hurt ankle last night) Andre gets 5 catches 70 yards and a score.
It will be a good matchup but the key week one will be how much time Schaub has in the pocket. With the suspenions our d is facing week one (and through week 4) we may not know how good our DB's are until later in the season.
I don't think this will be a walk in the park for Revis. Andre Johnson and Larry Fitz are probably two of the best WR's in the league (Johnson arguably being THE best), and Revis couldn't shut down Fitz last year (8 receptions, 122 yds). I think as long as he gets his yards, but we keep him from scoring, we'll stand a good chance.
Our pass rush will dictate how this matchup will go. If Schaub has time to throw the ball.....Revis will have his hands full....A.Johnson is "sick".
Who knows if Schaub will even play? Haven't read the injury report yet but what happened last night didn't look too good. No way is Johnson as good as Fitzgerald. I'm not saying he isn't a great receiver, he is, but Larry Fitz is just an absolute beast of a receiver.... I haven't seen a receiver as good as him in a long time.
Not many of those Fitz catches were against Revis if I remember correctly. I'm more concerned with the Lito vs. Walter matchup and D'Brick vs. Williams matchups. Revis will hold Johnson to less than 5 catches.
if revis doesn't give up a big throw or a TD he's done his job. no 3rd down conversions, no red zone catches and Revis has a pure win.
This is actually an awesome match-up and could go either way. Revis has better body control and change of direction...but AJ has better deep speed and quickness. They are both equally as physical. This will be fun to watch.
Only problem is that I saw them motion AJ to the other side of the field lots of times in the pre-season game they just had, and Revis usually stays on the left side, so not sure if he'll follow him or not.
Not that i want to turn this into a "Fitz vs A.Johnson" debate.....but i'd have to disagree with that statement. Fitz benefits from having Boldin on the other side......Johnson does a lot more with a lot LESS in Houston. Fitz: 6'3 217lbs Johnson 6'3 223lbs in terms of dimensions....the comparison is relatively the same. In terms of talent...I would say they're pretty equal.....it's just that Fitz has Boldin to free him up a little more.
That's true. Not all those catches Fitz had came while being covered by Revis. ^ This is actually what I agree with. It wouldn't surprise me tho if Johnson finishes with 100yds. As long as Revis keeps him from converting 3rd downs and completely eliminates him from being a redzone threat, he's done his job.
The only thing I'm willing to pretty much guarantee about week 1 is that it won't be decided by Revis vs Johnson. If the Texan's passing game is working it will be because their pass protection is better than our rush and whoever the QB is has the time to find his targets. If the Texan's passing game is failing it will be because the QB is under constant pressure from the Jet's blitzers and unable to find his targets. What Revis and Johnson put on the board is going to be a referendum on all of the above. Revis will have a great day if the Jet's pass rush makes that possible. Johnson will have a great day if the Texan's pass protection (and QB) enables that.
Guys, remember that even great corners get beat sometimes. It would not surprise me if Johnson had a game where, save for one big play, Revis keeps him in check. I can see his finals stats being 5 catches, roughly 80 yards, and 1 td on a play where he either beats Revis deep or breaks an attempted tackle. I think save for the one big play (and assuming they don't run any WR screens) Revis keeps him from picking up first downs and limits him to going underneath to try and use picks or rubs to get separation. I would be more concerned with Steve Slaton coming out of the backfield whilst the Jets two best pass-rushers sit out than I would be of Johnson consistently beating Revis.
Johnson has just as good hands.. Fitzgerald runs better routes.. Both decent blockers.. And Johnson is usain bolt.. On another note adp first touchdown had him clocked at max 22. Mph and usain runs 30 ???? sheesh
I agree with you. You could make a legit argument that either one of those guys is the best in the NFL. In terms of skillsets I think Johnson is a bit faster and, maybe, a tad more physical. I think Fitzgerald has a better vertical and better hands. However, I would only consider the superiority of one's specific ability over the other to be of a slight margin; there are little if any weaknesses in their games that can be exploited and they can both hurt you in lots of different ways.
