Bart Scott is not gonna make us a championship team, he's no LT, he's not even a pass rusher, he's a run stopper and lets see how he plays without Lewis. We still have no pass rush, QB, # 1 WR and a legititmate TE and the Pats picked up Fred Taylor, have 3 # 2 picks, have Tom Brady back are are going after Peppers. We are so far away from catching the Pats its a joke. Its depressing and what Rex says sounds good on paper but how many games is it gonna take us to learn the defense. Same old same old.
We have a QB. His name is Brett Ratliff. We'll get a #1 WR one way or another and if we have to make one out of what we currently have then that's what we'll do. Cotchery can be our possession guy and Clowney or Stuckey can be our deep guy if need be. The system makes the WR, not the other way around. The pass rush is Rex's top priority and he's already made a move to fix it. Give the man time - there are only so many options in free agency. He didn't draft Bryan Thomas and Gholston.
Wise guys!!!!! Yeah, every team has no QB or WR. I am not doing it to myself again, getting carried away with every off season move and fooling myself to the point where I think we are a super bowl contender. It happends every year on this site. Not me, not again, i have been a season ticket holder for 29 years, seen it done it, I am being realistic, go ahead act like arrogant Jet fans, not me, no more. I will say it again, we have no QB and a rookie coach, the 2 most important pieces. Of course nobody ever considers that Ryan might not be a good head coach or it will take time, know we just feed into all the bull shit that comes out of his mouth. PLEASE!!! I like what they did but there is so much more we need to compete with the Pats. And Ratliff or Clemens might be good, but they might suck also
Did you honestly expect that we would have filled every need during the first week of free agency? Can't have it all....
PATS PATS PATS .... Good Lord .... Last I checked they missed the playoffs last year too .... Yea I've been thru this too, been a JETS Fan since 1968 when I was 10 .... The Pats BIG moves so far ... Fred Taylor ??? He is worse than anything that we have, he just plain sucks ... We have NO quarterback ... Niether did the PATS when Tommy Boy went down, but they did respectable ... They had NO idea if Cassel was worth a damn, turns out he was, or so it looked last season ... Our "rookie" coach might suck Hmmm could be, might also be the next Vince Lombardi, Bill Cowher, Bill Walsh ... We've shored up a lot of needs this off season, #1 WR .... Still have the rest of free agency and the draft, not to mention a couple of guys that with the right coaching and a chance to play might just #1 WR .... We don't know until we try ... I for one a buying into Ryan's Express Train to the Superbowl, maybe not this year, but at very least a good run in the playoffs is what I expect ....
Sure we have some gaps to fill, who doesn't. Ryan's defensive philosophy, from what I see, we rely on schemes and blitzing. We now have two very good cover corners which should make to QB hold the ball a little more allowing the rush to reach him. Throw a blitz or two, or a thousand and we should be more than adequate. I see your point and would like a RDE upgrade over K. Coleman. Otherwise, safety is the next need. The Pats picked up F. Taylor for depth. THeir RB's are always hurt.
Guess what? All of that uncertainty that you spoke of with regards to our team? It applies to each of those moves the Pats made, too. So, Bart Scott could easily have zero impact on this team, but if the Pats get Peppers he'll easily convert to 3-4 OLB and lead them to a championship, right? None of our QBs could possibly step in and succeed, but Brady is certain to return to his 07 form from knee surgery, right? Fred Taylor will certainly have a tremendous impact despite the fact he's getting well up there in years when many RBs experience a huge drop off in production over a single season. Those #2 picks will all come in and immediately contribute. I'm sure ours will suck horribly. Are you sure you're posting on the right team's message board?
BTW, being "realistic" doesn't make you a better fan. Just makes you a drag to be around. We all know the team has holes that need to be filled. We need a #1 receiver, depth on the defensive line, a developmental LG, and a new safety. I don't think it's nearly as dire as you make it out to be, but we're also not a likely SB contender this season. To criticize and condemn the moves we've made this offseason is foolish, though. People are excited about the future. Best part about being a Jets fan is getting excited with each and every new regime. Worst part is being disappointed when it fails. The ups and downs are part of the game. Sounds like you're only on board for half of that now. Too bad.
The 2000 Baltimore Ravens had Trent Dilfer at QB. Do u remember if he had a WR to throw to? Brandon Stokley, whose only 1000-yds season came when Peyton was throwing at him. The 2002 TB Bucs had Brad Johnson at QB. His number one was Keyshawn, no Jerry Rice here. Then Joe Jurevicius and Keenan McCardell. Joe is nearing the end of his career and has only started 54 games through out. McCardell's worst season as a full time starter came when the Bucs won the SB. He's no Jerry Rice either. The 2007 Patriots had the most powerful offense of all time and we all know how that went down.
Waaaaah, the Pats are still in the division. Hell, with Mangini as coach, we split with them 2 out of 3 years.
We need a starting QB and # 1 WR and ain't no draft or free ageny gonna solve that from now till training camp. I don't think of myself as a better fan because of my 1/2 is glass empty mentality, I just wanted to make it clear I am not a johnny come lately like some of you kids. I did not realize this was a cheerleading site for the NYJ's, I thought this was for fans of the NY Jets. We don't have a Trent Dilfer at QB, we have no one, no one!!!!!
Our defense should be better than New England's. If it isn't, I'll be supremely disappointed. That alone makes it close.
It is a site for fans of the Jets, even the realistic ones. It's not a site for ignorant Chicken Littles.
I'm not all that worried about the Pats like I once was and I don't care how many picks they have. They have potential problems with Brady, they are getting old on defense and Fred Taylor is getting old too. There are other teams in the AFC that are a bigger concern now.
