yankees need johan santana to go along with wang, hughes, and chamberlain, then we would have a killer pitching rotation, we do not need arod, id rather have a 3rd baseman who has an excellent glove at third and is a singles hitter or gap hitter. lets go yankees, get johan santana....
Well you're not getting Santana next year unless you give up Hughes or Chamberlain or both. Join the club of every other teams fans wishing you could get the best pitcher in the game for nothing..
Yeah, pretty much. And it's a "both" situation. Minny isn't giving up Santana without getting both Hughes and Chamberlain in return. That's okay. I'll wait it out and see if we can steal him off the FA market.
The problem with that is, I doubt he'll ever SEE the free agent market. Some team will think, either correctly or incorrectly, that they are just one dominant pitcher away from a title, and give up the farm to get him, and then sign him to an extension. I'd be stunned if this didn't happen.
I think you're probably right. So the question is, who do you think trades the farm for him? (Which I think is wholesale stupid, btw.)
Best guesses for me right now would be the Mets or Dodgers with the Dodgers having better prospects to offer up but the Mets having more desperation. Depending on how many top prospects it would take, as a Mets fan as long as they could get the extension I wouldn't have much problem with it. He is the type of guy that could put the Mets over the top and I don't see any of the Mets top prospects being good enough to have to hold on to them.
Cleveland isn't going to get him. First of all, Minnesota would be unlikely to trade him within the division. Secondly, with Sabathia and Carmona already there, starting pitching isn't the problem. I have a feeling he'll end up in the NL East. Either the Mets, Braves, or Phillies.
The only way Santana goes to free agency is if Minnesota is challenging for a playoff spot in August.
Wait, on one hand you say the Yankees would have to give up Chamberlain and Hughes to get him and then you say he can be had for just prospects. Which is it?
Like I said, it is going to take multiple top prospects which is where Chamberlain & Hughes come into play..
Neither Chamberlain or Hughes is considered a prospect anymore. Both are starting pitchers in next year's rotation.
nitpick much? It is going to take multiple young talent.. Is that better? I still consider Hughes & Joba prospects anyway given that they haven't yet lived up to their potential.
If that's your basis for the definition then all but about 10 pitchers in major league baseball are prospects. My definition of prospects are those still at AA or AAA who have never pitched in a major league game. I don't think Santana will ever be traded for just prospects.
Dear Don, You know nothing about baseball. Please stop pretending you do. It's embarrassing. Yours, The GangGreen.com Message Board Baseball Forum
