barring any sort of major injuries, the jets have a legit shot of going 9-7, 10-6, or even 11-5! the rest of the schedule looks like this.... 10-22: Detroit---great chance for a W. jets record @ 4-3 10-29: @ Cleveland----another good opportunity for a win. 5-3 Bye Week 11-12: @ NE----Should be a great game, but I think we fall short. 5-4 11-19: Chicago----Bears are a much better team. 5-5 11-26: Houston----Should def put up a W. 6-5 12-03: @ GB-----the pack aren't very good at all, I think we pull this one out. 7-5 12-10: Buff----a toss up because jets/bills are tough games to call. could go either way depending on how healthy Buff is but I think we can take the game. 8-5 12-17: @ Minny----Should be a good game, but Minny falls short of holding off the jets at home. jets win. 9-5 12-25: @ Miami----same as Buffalo. it really depends on what shape miami is in by this point in the regular season. should be a tough game just like today. I'll give the edge to the jets, but i think both this and the Buff game are toss ups. jets win. 10-5 12-31: Oakland----this team is a joke, and the jets should be able to put their foot on the raiders throats early on and control the game. jets win. 11-5 i think that the 2 games that are toughest to call are division games against the phins and the bills. Minny may be able to take over and steal a win, but I'm not too confident in minnesota at all. so looking at it as if the jets drop a game to either buffalo or miami, that would set them at 10-6 instead of the 11-5 record from above. losing to minny would stick that at 9-7. in any case i think theres a very good chance to finish with a winning record, and if our boys play well enough in those games, the playoffs arent exactly out of the question. i can see the bye week landing us at 5-3, and going either 6-2 or 5-3 after the bye. what do you guys think?
I think that the Jets are not a good enough team to just pencil in "should-win" games and expect them to win them all.8-8 still looks like a successful season to me. Everything else is a pipe dream at this point.
come on guys - do you watch the games at all - the jets are a below .500 team talent wise and pegging them for 8-8 doesn't speak well about the opponents on the schedule. look i bleed green as much as the rookies around here but take the W-L record and throw it out.....this year is for establishing a system and seeing who fits and who doesn't. to me - it is apples and oranges watching the jets offense and defense for that matter compared to watching the mid to upper echelon teams in the league - but thats ok - give me 2 more years of re-building and then lets talk W-L. that being said if the jets do end up 8-8 - mangini is a candidate for coach of the year with payton in NO and smith in CHI. jil
I totally agree. We still lack a few impact players. There is nothing to convince me we will do any better than 8-8, maybe 9-7, but I doubt it, currently. All in all, I will be satisfied. Mangini started with virtually nothing, and at least has everyone playing as hard as they can.
I think that MAY be possible if we absolutely play our best football for the rest of the season without injury or player regression. But that doesnt happen in the NFL
the jets arent that bad personel wise we are learnign a new system and it takes time but i can see them winning 10 or 11 it's possible. we need to get healthy a late season bye is great for that. we need to keep getting better on the defense. we dont play alot of greta teams we seem to beat the teams that are about as good as us. so why not. however if we do win that many games we will get crushed in the first round of the playoffs anyways becasue we cant stop the run
Man this has to be the easiest schedule in NFL history. I don't see us winning 11 but it's scary to think that we actually should win 10 games because we are better than the teams on our schedule.
10-6 is possible but I'm not getting all worked up about our possible record by season's end or the possibility of us getting into the playoffs. We're not playoff-calibre this year, period. We talked about this at the beginning of the year and nothing has changed for me. If anything, glaring deficiencies have surfaced that highlight the need for even more work. Not to be negative, but let's all be realistic about this... we wouldn't last the first round even if we did squeak into the playoffs. Our running game stinks. Leon Washington is a breath of fresh air but we don't have the blocking for anything consistent, so we have no balance. Our defense allows far too many yards per game and our defensive personnel are ill-suited for the 3-4, among other things, so we either change this approach or we wait until we can acquire personnel that are better suited. Either way, we're not looking at a competitive team because we're not balanced on offense and have glaring deficiencies on defense. So, with our easy schedule, I'm sorry to say that 10-6 or even 11-5 just doesn't excite me. I agree with Mario. Let's just enjoy the ride this year and see where it takes us, not in terms of numerical record, but where it takes us in terms of how much we can learn about our strengths and weaknesses so that we're better able to address them in the off-season and come out swinging in '07.
9-7 is my preseason prediction, and I'm sticking with it. I see us losing to Buffalo and either Miami, Houston, or one of the NFC teams. It looks like we might have some semblance of a running game. That's encouraging, but we still have an embarrassing run defense and a non-existent pass rush. Good teams stop the run. -X-
I think the rebuilding process is one more year tops. NT, RB, RT, done. And I totally agree that 8-8 makes Mangini a candidate for coach of the year.
Playoffs? I tell you what, if we make the playoffs I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it. Not going to worry about whether we're a "real" playoff team or not. After the way that all the pundits ragged us in the offseason, I just want to shove it down their throats. There was one guy who said there are only two teams who have no chance to win the Super Bowl in '06, the 49ers and the Jets. Well, where is genius Sabin and the "contender" Dolphins now? 1-5. And there are a bunch of other teams looking up at us in the standings. All I know is this, our guys give 60 minutes of effort every game. For now, thats good enough for me.
Something that excites me would be the 0-15 Oakland Raiders coming into town in week 17 with the Jets having the chance to knock them to 0-16 and the worst team in NFL history.
After watching the Raiders yesterday I doubt they'll have a team left to play @ week 16. That is after they either go berserk or kill themselves. How bout' Lamont's temper tantrum after his fumble? I thought he was gonna rip his own eyes out.
I wish that we could save this easy schedule for a year or 2 from now. If the Jets were another year into the rebuilding process, I think that they could bang out 11-12 wins easily.
I think that we will slip up once or twice against the horrible seven. The question is: can we steal one against the good three.
I'm going with 7 wins on the season, but they may exceed my expectations and hit 8. I'd be giddy with 8. Anything more and I will have to reference my doomsday decoder for evidence of a coming apocolypse. I think we will split the Detroit/Cleveland games. I think we should be able to beat both, but I'm guessing Detroit takes it to us. We'll lose games to NE, Chicago by a good margin. Houston a win. Green Bay at GB in December bothers me. They aren't very good, but our defense sucks. Favre has enough in the tank to spoil us. The last remaining 4 games, should be win at Oakland, loss at Minny. Flip a coin on Miami and Buffalo. We all pretty much suck right now. I'd guess Buff wins and we sweep Miami.
