Excellent job by Mangini & SUtton with the defensive scheme. For the first time against Brady, we hit him early and often. He was clearly flustered by it. Hopefully they have learned that they play pretty good D when they are aggressive. The key to the game was hitting Brady, getting him out of his comfort zone early in the game. Great job by the D..
you know what i absolutely LOVED. Seeing brady lying in the mud while the jets ran onto the field and celebrated
ditto. The fumble at the end was just fitting on how the day went for Brady. Its still crazy how Shaun Ellis got in their with just a 3 man rush. Ellis must have been on a mission to get to Brady.
The Jet's defense has performed reasonably well when it has aggressively gone after the QB this season. It has stunk like a 3 day old tunafish sandwich when it didn't.
Ellis had a pretty good game. I wonder if he's a psychological enigma... have always heard things like he is the most physically gifted guy on the defense, etc. And some games he plays like a pro-bowler and some games he's completely invisible. Makes me wonder if he's got challenges "getting up" for every game/ every play. Seemed like the Jets D made a concerted effort, though, to get him involved. Seemed like most of the blitzes were overloading Ellis' side of the line in an effort to free him up.
Ellis draws a tackle and a guard on almost every passing down when there are 4 men or less rushing the passer. That's a pretty tough situation to make an impact in. When the Jets rush 5 or more he gets one-on-one more often and has a better opportunity to make an impact.
From what I saw yesterday, the idea of the 3-man rush aka: The Prevent Defense, should be scrapped along with Hackett's 400 page playbook. We played agressively all day long and kicked Brady's ass. We lay back in the 3 man rush and Brady picks us apart. Ellis saved the game but it should have never gotten to that point.
While I agree completely about the 3-man rush, we also blitzed every down on that 31 second TD drive by the Pats. That was probably fresh in Mangini/Sutton's head on the final Pats drive.
True. But up until that point, we were laying back. Coleman was getting victimized by Brady and no pressure being generated. I guess our blitz was finally getting picked up but it sure looked like we were laying back.
i put alot of jalapenos in his subway sandwich when he came into my subway during the summer lol.. he was probably thinking "I wonder if that crazy jets fan who made my sandwich is here?"
I thought that too untill the 31 second TD drive the Pats went on in the 4th. All year long I wondered why we were going into a shell whenever we had a lead late in the game. I always wanted them to continue to be aggressive and go after QB's. They did it to NE and we payed with that quick drive. Sure the tipped pass could have gone either way, but on that drive sequence we appeared to be over aggressive. They need to find that happy medium where there still getting some pressure without exposing the entire rest of the field. Or maybe we just should not be THAT aggressive on a QB like Brady. Either way a wins a win. I'm sure they'll study and learn plenty from that drive.
Man i remember the old thread about when Brady first came into your subway. We had a page or two about all the things you should have done lol
