Reyes just came limping off the field with this calf injury again.... What the hell are we going to do with delgado and reyes out of the lineup? particularly offensively, we are screwed. Things are looking dismal right now.

Yeah, seriously. We're not even a third of the way through the season.

ok, so what if its only may? How many games were the mets out of the playoffs by the last two years? The first game of the season counts as much as the last, Delgado is out for 2 months at least and who knows with reyes. With that being said we may end up 10 games out. Its fair to say that with both of these injuries we will lose 10 more games than we would have with them being in the line up. Besides this team is so frustrating to watch right now. Theyre pulling all their typical losing bullshit as usual but right now its on the west coast so it all happens at 1 oclock in the morning for me.

You're an idiot. We won 7 games in a row a week ago. There are peaks and valleys in the season, and there are a lot worse places to be than a game out of a playoff spot. Even though every is of equal value, this early in the season it is impossible to know what wins we need and what wins we don't. In August and September, we'll have a better idea. So how about we wait until then before we make "the sky is falling" threads? This isn't the Jets forum, after all.

Im wrong for saying reyes and delgado being out of the line up for extended periods of time might potentially ruin our shot at the playoffs? If you ask me thats devastating, and if you say otherwise, in my opinion THAT is idiotic.

First of all, you have no idea how long Reyes will be out of the line-up. None. So you should have at least waited to find that out before you made your case. Second of all, Reyes hasn't even been that strong up to this point; if he were healthy, you'd be bitching about his performance. Our strength of schedule has been the toughest in the NL East up until this point, and the Braves and Nats have the two easiest in the entire ML. I'm find with where we are right now. The two injuries suck, but Wright and Beltran have been hitting extremely well, and win Jerry locks into a more consistant line-up, the rest of the guys will start hitting better.

You say them being out for extended periods of time "might potentially ruin our shot at the playoffs." How about you wait and see if what "might potentially" turns into before you make a thread titled, "we are done" full of this pessimistic garbage. It's freaking May.

i agree i should not have titled the thread "we are done." that was a bit over the top and a mistake on my part. But regardless, reyes WILL go on the dl, and who is going to play shortstop? We have NO POWER. we havent hit a home run in a coons age, i guess gary sheffield is going to fill that void right? The offensive lineup right now is pathetic, and we have nobody in the minor leagues. The mets are going to have to sign somebody, because the team they have right now without reyes and delgado is simply not good enough.
Pessimistic? I have been saying since the start of this season that this is the mets best shot at winning a world series this year, I am simply worried that this might seriously hinder any chance at this. I guess we shouldnt talk any baseball til august too, since you can only judge how vital a game is when its late in the season. Each game counts the same, and the mets are going to look ugly for a good stretch right now, its not doomsday, but all that I am saying is that there is a great reason to be concerned. If your happy with this mets lineup then god bless you, ignorance is bliss.

What's devastating is our bullpen pitching is just as bad as last year.

Agreed, but Manuel has the talented pitching, but doesn't know how to use them properly. Putz is a big dissappointment...maybe because he's in a new league, I don't know, but he's not getting the job done. Neither was Perez, who is sitting back collecting his nice fat paycheck.

I'm not saying we can't discuss baseball until August, I'm saying we can't effectively handicap playoff chances until then. We can judge their quality of play, which this week has been pretty bad, and make predictions for the future, but I'd prefer they be informed ones.

I still maintain the Mets should've signed a cheap outfield bat while they had the chance. Abreu or someone of that sort. It's obvious Murphy can't play the outfield. Manuel even pretty much said if he doesn't make it at first he's not going to be an every day player. So your starting Gary Sheffield. Eww.

Still this season is over stuff is pretty dumb. It's May. If the season is over then Grady Sizemore ends the year batting .206 and Zack Greinke is God. Omar could easily make a move and go out to get someone serviceable ala Nick Johnson or Mark Derosa. Or who knows maybe Murphy plays the position decently and offers some more pop to go with a .280 average.

Also, Reyes won't go on the DL.

nick johnson would not be a bad acquisition, and so far, its only been one game, but I think moving murphy to 1st base should have been done a while ago. (once delgado went down)
