So now Revis will think he can negotiate with another team too. I'm sure his agents are telling him that right now. It might be good if we did let him do that. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22475988/24015215 "There could finally be some movement on the Vincent Jackson front. According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, the Seattle Seahawks have been given permission to discuss contract terms with the star receiver. This suggests that a trade could be on the horizon. The Seahawks say they have talked to Chargers general manager A.J. Smith about trade compensation for Jackson. If Jackson gets his way, a new contract would likely be in the neighborhood of $9 million per season. Jackson would instantly become the No. 1 receiver in Seattle, relegating T.J. Houshmandzadeh to a more-fitting underneath role and allowing second-round rookie Golden Tate to assume the slot duties. The Dolphins’ acquisition of Brandon Marshall from Denver will likely set the bar here. Miami gave up two second-round picks for Marshall (one in 2010, another in 2011). Jackson’s holdout stems from his displeasure with being tendered as a restricted free agent. Jackson refused to sign the one-year tender of $3.268 million by June 15. The Chargers reduced the one-year tender to $583,000, which only widened the gap between the player and team."
Vincent Jackson is an RFA. Revis still has 3 years left on his deal. Wouldn't mind seeing Jackson on the Hawks, would be devastating to the Chargers and they are serious contenders in the AFC.
10 million a year is way too much to pay a wide receiver. That's assuming the wide receivers name is Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson or Randy Moss. If his name is Vincent Jackson it's absurd.
Yeah, I saw the $9 million number and laughed. That's more than Andre will average over his 10 year contract, and barely under Fitzgerald's $10 million average that he's under right now. However, VJax is turning into a great receiver. He's got two straight 1000+ yard seasons. He deserves something in the neighborhood of $7 million. Seattle is absolutely crazy if they're going to throw more than that at him, especially when they're going to be banking on him continuing his success WITHOUT Rivers.
Un-stoppable 6'9" WR's are worth their weight in gold. I am saying he is worth a 14mil contract. Especially with the holdout specialists he has as agents. He always has a basketball fallback..........lol
You don't think those agents will use Vincent Jackson getting his money as incentive for Revis to keep taking the hard line? I've got a bridge to sell you if you don't think those two situations are gonna be related. Unless Revis just flat doesn't want to leave the Jets (and his agents sure burned a lot of bridges for a guy that wants to stay), this and the Sean Gilbert thing is only gonna make him more determined to get his and sure that he is going to eventually, from one team or another.
I might be worried if I were a team looking to sign him. It looks like VJax injured himself at some point this offseason:
I doubt the outcome of the Vincent Jackson situation is going to have any real impact on the Revis situation. One of them was an RFA this year and essentially held out because the RFA's were largely ignored (collusion?) by NFL teams this past season. His argument essentially is that the Chargers never negotiated with him in good faith and neither did anybody else. Revis is under contract. He's never going to get away from that essential condition of his employment situation. He can look at the VJ situation and pine for the year when he is free to negotiate on the open market but he isn't there yet and will never get there by holding out.
