Anyone have a clip of the ill-fated play? Frame of reference for a discussion I'm having with somebody about achilles tendon injuries.
I'll never, ever forget that day. I was so pumped up. I had one of those Jets blow up chairs and stool, my Vinny beany baby, beer, chips, ect. I'll admit it, I burst into tears that day.
I was at the game, in the corner of the end zone - there was NO ONE between me and Vinny. Man that sucked. Friggin PAts fans had the nerve to sing the na-na-na-hey-hey goodbye song as he was being taken off.
another reason to hate pats fans. a-holes. You think jets fans would do the same thing if brady got injured liek that?
crap - i was just getting over that day, almost 7 years later..... think it was close to 2:00 pm eastern time when it popped and i knew right then and there it would take another 15 years to get to another afc championship game...... oh... being a jet fan....... jil
Parcells actually went into kind of a shock. Remember the controversy at the end of the game when NE brought out Viniteri to kick the GW field goal and Parcells started screaming - wondering why NE was showing up the Jets by adding onto their lead? The man didn't realize the Jets were winning. That would explain why he had Mirer throwing with only three minutes left and the lead......
i was at that game too in the corner of the endzone the pats? i thought it was against the colts? maybe im wrong i was 9 back then so
Absolutely, that chant would be sung from the mountain tops... What else that made that particular weekend great was that the Sox swept the Yankees in yankee stadum after Pedro pitched the signature game of his career two nights earlier with 17 k's and 1 hit. I was actually at that game. What a weekend! Of course the Yankees went on to b-slap the Sox in the ALCS but hey it was still a great weekend. Vinny was such a gamer and I felt badly for him but I was glad to see the Jets season flush straight down the toilet as Jets fans tried to convince themselves that Ray Lucas could carry the torch...
Actually had Lucas played a few games earlier the season might have been different. I'm not sure what week he got put in but Mirer was the QB for a few weeks.
The Jets' hopes for the 1999 season were dashed in their first game against the New England Patriots, when, on the first play of the second half, Testaverde ruptured his Achilles tendon. Backup QB Rick Mirer took over, quarterbacking the Jets to a 4–6 record, after which Ray Lucas took over. Lucas lost his first two starts but after won his next 4 to give the Jets an 8–8 record.
Interestingly, I went to a Monday nighter against the Jets in Foxboro ( I think that same year) when the Jets came in under Lucas and took the Pats out behind the woodshed. Quite possibly the coldest night of my life.... Maybe that was the following season. I can't remember.
