took this from a very reliable poster at another site Quote: Just listened to Dan Moriartie(SP) and Jim More SR. interview Vernon Davis and he says the Jets will take him at 4. That out of any of the teams he has visited with, they were the most interested in him and he thinks they will take him at 4. Was asked if he thought he would end up with the Niners originally by Jim Mora and right away Davis said no, he thought it would be the Jets.
the only decent hope is that eric winston is still there at 29, then we could possibly have our OT for the future (if he regains his form which there is a good chance, he's a top 10 talent)
Because obviously Brick is the only person in the entire universe that can protect the QB. With all of the rest of our picks we should refuse to draft OLine because if it ain't Brick it ain't shit. Here here. I demand we draft Brick so that our QB will have the time needed to throw the ball to...?
They SHOULD take him. With the Schott connection, and the fact we can get good offensice line help with 29 and 35 he is the playmaker we need to open up the Jets offense.
Do I think we need Brick, yep. I'm tired of people who want to draft flashy players early and then just use the throw away line, we'll address the Oline in round bleen. Yep, that 7th round T will dominate on Sundays for the next ten years. Not.
then we sign a veteran later, we already signed plenty of guys with starting experience to fix our weak positions coming into this offseason, really we're drafting just to upgrade now, not fill.
Although I wanted to go defence in the 1st round, I'm pretty sure that Tangini are going to go and get their own playmaker than will be their go to guy and not use one from the old regime. This way they get more credit when they win ball games. I see us going after Bush or picking Davis at 4
None of the guys we've signed is any more than a back up. If we don't have an Oline you could have God at TE and we're not going to move the ball or score points.
there are a ton of guards in the draft, add to that a handful of guys who played OT in college who will have to switch to OG in the pro's, it's a deep position there are a few good centers, and a couple serviceable one's good players at those positions can be found in rounds 3-6 in this draft edit: im going to eat so i dont have to the time to write out a handful of names at the moment
No way am I in favor of lining up a throw away line. I just am of the belief that if you have the #4 pick and didn't trade for it - it means your team is BAD. So bad, in fact, that the holes are numerous. So in that light - draft the BPA available. I'm not saying that Duke Davis is the BPA. But if he is - it's ludicrous to pass him over. As you get to your later picks then I can see reaching to fill needs. But not when you have a chance for the 4th best prospect in the draft(maybe even better if another team is stupid enough to reach).
I'm just wondering why we would pass on the chance to grab an dominant players when we have the chance.
You guys realize that if this report is correct, its just saying that Vernon Davis thinks the Jets like him. How does that tell us anything? It is in his direct interest for teams to think hes going to go early, so that his stock will rise, or someone will trade up for him, and he can cash in. I also think hes not going to be the best pick available at 4, but even if you think he is, looking at this quote as anything meaningful is just ridiculous. (In case you were going to ask, I would take Leinart, Young, Mario, DBrick, or Hawk ahead of him, even though i acknowledge that he is likely going to be great)
