I'm a Chad supporter, but this quote really troubles me. It gives me the feeling that Chad knows he will never truly return to past form even if he is 100% at this point.

Well, it's not so much that he cant ever return to 100%, it's more that he hasnt been healthy in a while, so it's hard to judge what 100% really is.

Good read, it appears it is turning into a 2 man race. I'd had confidence in Ramsey, but that is diminishing. Clemens Vs. Pennington now for the start. Whoever gets the job, I know mangini and co. will make the right decision for our team to make a run this year.

This is Chad's last year as a Jet.

Reading Nostradamus again, are you. I swear, you can fit any square peg into a round hole if you try hard enough.

It's all going to be about two things:

    1. Is Chad healthy enough to play at a high level?

He's not going to get any benefit of the doubt from the new Jet's brass about his ability to play. No desperate Hermy reaches here; he's either good to go or he's not. If he's not we might see a really shocking thing happen, cuz the Jets are not cap-strapped any more.

    2. Assuming he's ready to play physically, where is his mind?

We all know the snappage that happened in 2004 was related to the pain he was under at the time, however it did show us that he could get off kilter suddenly and make himself and the Jets look really bad. He has no room now to be anything but the consummate pro and if he's really pressured by Clemens in camp he could blow it again and have a real issue develop. I don't think he'd crack if he was not ready to go and Ramsey or Bollinger played instead but I wonder how having Clemens take his job would feel? The young guy rarely loses the job back to the vet once he's won it.

I am not putting any money on Chad being the starter this season because of the two factors above.

I think this is still a race. Nothing Penny said in that article scream "Oh I'm scared, I might not be able to do this!"

He has had a tough road. If anyone remembers, he fought hard to get his spot when Vinny was all Herm cared about. Hell, if Vinny didn't crumble physically himself, Chad never would have seen the field.

Clemmens will eventually be the starter. Will it be this year, next year, or 2008 is the real question. That all hinges on Chad.

I would love to see Chad come back and be great for us. However, I do appreciate the Mangini mindset. Nobody is bulletproof around here. The best player is going to get the start, and that's the way it should be.

I don't like seeing that Bolly is the odd man out. I can't understand that when Ramsey has shown that the complaints in Washington have followed him to minicamp. BB is one of the best #3 QBs I have ever seen. Is he true starter material? Probably not. Is he a better guy to hold the clipboard and be ready to step up if the chance comes than Ramsey? I think so.

Oh well. Guess it's still just wait-and-see. Come on July, you can't come quiickly enough!

I agree the most troubling thing is the fact that bolly is the odd man out just cause we traded for Ramsey shouldn't be the reason why we are forced to keep him - we are not going to resign this guy...cut him!

I agree 100%. It's not like we gave up a huge pick for Ramsey. Personally, I don't think he has what it takes to be successful. I gave him a chance coming into minicamp because, hey, you never know. However, so far, from what I have read, he is the same QB he was in Washington, a natural pick machine.

I must admit, I have been a Bollinger fan for a long time now. I often said over the past few years, after watching him in preseason games, that I thought he could be a capable QB in the league. At times, I even thought he should have had a chance in the regular season, ever over Penny. Yes, he was always playing against 3rd stringers, but he still showed me that "it." I think he should be here, even as a third stringer. If we dump him, I will go out on a limb and say he will have a decent career elsewhere, at least as a #2. Sure, he probably will never get the chance to be a starter, unless he maybe winds up in Buffalo, but he can definitely be a big help to a team as a quality backup. You can't underestimate the value of a quality backup in this league. Too often these days, what with all of the speed and size at LB in this league, your QB is only as good as your OLine's ability to cover more than one man each.

Oh well. I'm not in charge. I just have to have faith that the Powers That Be know more than I do, and make the best possible decisions for this club.

We aren't making a run at anything. We would be so incredibly fortunate to make the playoffs this year let alone "Making a run" for the title.

New Coaching staff, new offense, new defense, QB issues, Young Oline, Lack of a pass rusher and much more will prevent us from doing any damage this year.

I am glad you are positive and all that, but making a run just isn't in the cards with all the turnover going on.

The way the contact is set up, he will be due a multi million dollar bonus at some point in the next offseason. Unless he has a big time year, (Probowl or playoff appearance) he will be forced to renegotiate again or face being released.

Yeah, the "it's a privilege to cover the Jets" rant that lasted for 15 minutes in front of half the NY press corps and a couple of national writers.

Chad's image never fully recovered after that. You still hear some of the beat writers (and no I'm not talking just Serby) talk about that rant as the worst possible way for an athlete to present himself to the press.

HAH! Are you kidding me?! I loved that! It was part Drama Queen, part Herman Munster hissy fit - made me screech like hell. They're all a bunch of babies. Everyone's entitled to a mood or a momentary lapse of decorum. And, Chad is about as nice as they come when it comes to the press AND the fans alike, generally speaking.

I should have added unless he somehow has some kind of incredible season in leading the Jets to at least a .500 record.
I am a big Chad supporter but with 2 injuries to his shoulder, I dont think that it is realistic to believe that he can comeback to his 02 self.
I dont think that he will start half the games this year and Clemens will be starting by years end.
Mangini has no ties to anyone so if Chad cant start, why would they keep him around and give him that roster bonus?

I wasn't aware that the opinions of beat writers wore so heavily on players mental psyche. Guess he should have just given them a 15 second "up yours".
