Troy Brown is scheduled to meet the Jets today.
Brown is a career-Patriot who's been mulling retirement. We simply can't imagine him wearing any other uniform. Mar. 16 - 12:37 pm et

Oh, what the hell. The more Pats we get, the better chance we have right? Just what the Jets need, another WR under 6'

No, no, don't worry. We're signing him to play cornerback!

Ah whatever. He's sure to come cheap. Why not? It's only a short term solution to our depth problem at WR anyway.

Is he the guy that Mangini converted from WR to CB a couple of years ago?

I don't know if it was Mangini's call, but yes, he plays both positions.

The Jets definitely need CB depth.

It would be a waste of a roster spot that could be given to someone with potential to start one day.

Let's see: Barrett, Miller, Strait, and Darrien Johnson, yeah we do. But I think we'd address that in the draft. At least we're ok with safeties.

But we're very thin at reciever. He's also not going to be higher on the depth chart than Cotchery or JMac. We're most likely not going to grab a reciever in this draft.

I also highly doubt we would throw him at corner unless we absolutely had too. This move would be made to add depth to the reciever position.

depth and character guy...i love this new coach/gm tandem, for once we may get some respect with them there if they are given the chance of lasting longer than a year or two

NO .... Troy brown is someone you sign in the middle of the season for depth ... Not when you are rebuilding

This signing would make no sense in my opinion. Maybe if the comes in as a cb. We already have our top 3 recievers i certainly dont want him at 3 over cotchery:mad:

The one thing that makes Troy Brown attractive is his lunch-bucket worth ethic... he'll show up and do what is asked of him. He certainly isn't the tallest, youngest or fastest player in the game.

Perhaps if the roster looks thin after the first few games of the season when nagging injuries set in, he'll look pretty good. At this point during FA and before the draft and training camp cuts, he's not so attractive. (The guy does have 3 rings. . . not like he needs the money or anything.)

    Mulling retirement?

And we would want this guy why?

Because we have absolutely zero depth at reciever, and he would be cheap.

At most he'll be a #4 reciever, and be signed to a one or two year deal. Why do people have a problem with this?

Because we can do way better. And with someone younger.

We are rebuilding. No more old guys please.

The only bad thing about Troy Brown is his age. He's otherwise a tough friggin' football player and, more importantly, he's a clutch 3rd-down receiver like a certain other number 80 that just retired.

Plus, however brief it was, he's worn the Jets uniform before.

Hmm...interesting...he could be our 4th or 5th cb and 4th or 5th receiver...lol...how many times do we really run a 4wr set
    Plus he has great hands.
