Seeing as how it is going to be in upstate NY this year (Cortland, for those who don't know) I actually am going to be able to attend camp this summer. i like many others have never been able to go to camp simply because it has just been too far away. I figure this is a thread that can be used by first time camp goers to ask questions, and those of you who have been a million times can help us out. I also think since camp isnt where it usually new people will be writing camp reports for the first time (myself included!) So it could be quite useful to hear the types of things that have worked well in the past, and things that havent.
I'll kick this off with a question, since I have never been, I have never paid attention to the schedule. how often are things closed to the public? How much notice do we have to these days? Any idea when the first set of scheduled events will be up? Also what types of things are banned from the facilities? Can we bring video recording devices or just regular cameras? Is there some sort of place at the facility to get lunch? I know obviously things wont be the same in cortland as they were at Hofstra but in the past what types of things are there besides actual practices at camp?
I konw at the minicamps you could only bring a camera and no video camera devices were allowed. There were also local businesses that set up tents with food. I don't know how much this helps but have fun.
I'm in Albany. When I heard they were moving camp to up-state, I was stoked thinking they would be close enough to check out. Cortland is two plus hours for me. I wish it could have been a little less rural. What happened to the Jets/Giants scrimmages?
To anyone considering writing a report, please consult 227's reports from previous years. The guy put together better reports than any beat writer we've seen thus far. Learn from 227 and the rest of us will benefit.
yes thats true 227 does have the best reports. Also thanks to the others posting answers to a few of my questions. But does anybody know that much about the schedule? how often is it closed to the public? I wont be able to make the trip often maybe just once or twice because it is just under a two hour trip to camp, and I certainly dont want to waste a trip by going on a day its closed!
That's absolutely right, they were both providing such detailed reports at the same time that I almost envisioned them to be the same poster.
Hard to know for sure how this TC will be run. New coach, new location, things could change. It will still involve an AM session and a PM session on 2 a days though.
I'll be heading up there one day with my brother from Manhattan. It's a long drive, but it'll be my first time at a Jets training camp. We should probably organize some sort of TGG training camp meet-up, or something.
new question, since they still havent released the schedule for Jets camp, I am curious don't the Jets/Giants do an annual scrimmage? Any idea when that normally is? My dad (Giants fan) wants to go see that if it happens this year....
I know they play a pre-season game. I am talking about the scrimmage they have had somewhere near Giants TC in Albany the past few years. I was thinking it took place after a week or two of camp, prior to the actual preseason games, maybe during the week of the HOF game... I know they had one a few years back because of the reports about the fights breaking out and what-not.
Yeah I remember that. It was supposed to be a no-contact scrimmage and someone nailed Amani Toomer. Then Shockey got into a fight with someone and Donnie Henderson said something to the effect of that's how we play our game!!! With our hats on!!! That stupid ass comment from Henderson damned the Jets. The only hats they wore that year were shaped like flaccid penises. 4-12.
i know, but didnt they hold the scrimmage under Mangini's tenure as well? I could have sworn I heard something about it last year or maybe the year prior....
Hey anybody going up there, take Route 17, and about halfway is Liberty. I recommend the diner there. Perfect place to stop for lunch. The Roscoe Diner gets alot of hype, but the one in Liberty is quite good.
