If the jets were to pull off a sign and trade, what would you consider a good (realistic) trade? Could you get the same for Richardson?
It's hard to say what would be realistic. It would depend upon other teams' needs, cap space and how they viewed Mo. I would think the Jets should be able to get at least a mid-first round pick in return, and possibly multiple picks, but perhaps not. No, I don't think they could get the same for Richardson. Mo is a solid citizen with no character issues. The same can't be said for Richardson. Richardson could be suspended for the first 4 games of the 2016 season or maybe even longer. He may have more potential and be faster or maybe even more versatile than Mo, but he hasn't had a season like Mo yet. I have no idea what the Jets could get in return for Richardson, but I would think that it would be fairly substantially less.
Kind of reminds me of the Revis situation, but I feel Wilkerson is more valauble because of position and age. I would feel comfortable with maybe a first and second but I'd rather keep him. Sick of seeing homegrown talent leave the team. I'd rather trade Richardson but he's not worth nearly as much because of off the field issues so we wouldn't get fair value. Also Wilk broke his leg. Hopefully that'll drive his price down a bit. I wanna keep him in green and white.
I'm thinking a late 1st is probably the best we could get in a sign and trade this summer. The Revis deal was made easier by the Bucs than it should have been. They were the only bidder at the level the Jets considered appropriate. Despite that they gave prime value for a prime player coming off an injury. The other way to approach a Mo trade would be to take compensation in the form of multiple picks staggered over several years with conditional increases or decreases based on his ability to play and level of play. As an example, we have a better chance of trading Mo for real value to a weaker franchise desperate for a presence inside in their defensive front. The problem is that nobody is going to give up a high 1st round pick for him in the year they acquire him, with his cap number and the questions about his health forestalling a deal of that type. Realistically most teams would pass on a top 10 pick for any player who was not a QB in most situations anyway. So for the Jets maybe asking for a 2nd round pick in '16 (or '17 if the injury prevents a trade before the summer) from a weaker team that is either in the top 4 of the 2nd round this year or likely to be in 2017 is the baseline the Jets should be looking at. Have a conditional pick the year after that which is a 1st if Mo is All-Pro/Pro Bowl (either) or a 2nd otherwise, and then a conditional pick the following year that is a 3rd if he's on the team's roster or a 6th if not. That would give the Jets in the best case a 1st, high 2nd and 3rd for Mo but only if he proves out for the team that trades for him. Worst case the Jets get a '17 2nd (which could be anywhere although if you're trading with a top 4 team this year you have good odds in '17), an '18 2nd round and a '19 6th round, which is way above comp level pick status.
Would like to keep him but he's a luxury we can't afford. If you can get a first and a third, then do it. We have too many holes. If not, then keep him and take the pick. A franchise can survive as long as it has similar talent. And we do. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
There is just not enough money and some tough decisions have to be made. Next to Fitz, Mo is your most valuable player. IMO they lock up RF fast as lightning Watch what happens in March when we go free agent shopping then you weigh the cost of keeping or trading players like Mo cutting Slowmartie and Skrine versus picking up some hot talent to put us over the top . The youth movement with players like Maudlin replacing the vets will figure heavily here
If you were a fan another team would you be happy with trading a top 20 pick for a guy coming off a broken leg who is looking for a huge contract? I don't think so. Yes, the Bucs did it, but Revis was considered the best CB in the game at the time.
I think the only option on MO should be to keep him here and make him a career Jet. If we want to trade someone it should be Sheldon.
To everyone saying "we can't afford him", I'd just like to point out that last year when we were spending all our cap space on Skrine and Gilchrist ... and the entirety of the fanbase was patting itself on the back about how wonderful the new GM was because he was spending every dollar ... several posts were made on here that these signings were very foolish because it was going to cost us one of our Pro Bowl defensive linemen. Well? Now it is going to cost us one of our defensive linemen because we overpaid for average defensive backs. As for trading Mo? If we're going to trade anyone, it should be Richardson. Richardson has already demonstrated he makes bad decisions and cannot be trusted. Mo, on the other hand, has been a solid citizen. If you can only pay one, you pay the one you can trust.
