last updated: 02/22/08 ~ ~ ~ In Jacksonville they are excited with the emergence of young linebackers Clint Ingram and Justin Durant, so there is also talk that Mike Peterson days may be numbered....They also would love to pry  Laveranues Coles  from New York to bring him back home, so don't be surprised if thes two teams dance on draft day.... > http://www.draftdaddy.com/blog/nfldraft.cfm
I am Ok with this. Pennington to Coles is finished. The Jets need a new direction: Draft choices, trades, whatever. Wipe out the past. Let's see what Tangini can do. New team, new direction.
Nah, Mangini is part of the new direction. He will just continue to change things and make the team his own.
let's see his 1st year he had Herm's players second year most of his own players now tell me how good we did with his players?
The team did horrible. Now, one more year to draft and sign players and Mangini's team should take most of its potential form. If the team is garbage in 2008, more bad things are to come. If the team shows significant signs of improvement, I think he stays long term.
comon he still had to contend with all the garbage contracts herm gave out Mcarriens anyone, look at mike mccarthy, how much did he suck in his first couple years, but the packers stayed the course and now have a team that looks like it will contend for a very long time.
New direction I WISH the Jets would hire a new coach, that's no secret. But if Mangini's regime is going to work at all? He has to start fresh and get rid of players like Coles/Pennington. As much as I enjoyed their work together? There's no way that they are getting us to a Super Bowl. We (the JETS) need to start over. If Mangini starts Pennington again, it's over. As much as I like Chad, his best days are behind him. He's not going to lead the NYJ to a Super Bowl. So... Let's move on.
I hear (via ESPN) that Vilma will get a third round draft choice... Wish we had a defensive scheme to take advantage of his skills instead.
In that link it also says that the Raiders might cutting Tommie Kelly (6-6, 300 lbs). Height and weight wise, he sounds like a good fit as 3-4 depth. Anyone know anything about him?
I dont know about kelly but Fitz and Julius Peppers are def two names i could get used to in green and white... I know neither would come cheap but trying to nab one would certainly make me a happy jet fan...
So how did we go from trading Coles to Jacksonville, to picking up Fitz and Julius Peppers and Tommy Kelly? Honestly I would prefer a player from the jags as opposed to draft picks... Unless of course it's #6 and Coles for their first 3 picks... I would take that deal and run with it. Coles is a phenom talent, and I think he deserves to be paid, we have no one behind him on the depth chart that could come close to replacing him. Some will say Cotchery could, ok say Cotchery does pickup coles production, who picks up his? we have no reciever depth, some guys have potential to be good, I think Stuckey will be a great if he can stay healthy. So trading our top reciever better get us a big time player or a huge deal or it is a stupid move.
There are going to be a lot of Indy rumors from the combine and this is one of them. Take these rumors with a grain of salt until they appear on profootballtalk.com or rotoworld.com
I take everything on ProFootballTalk with a grain of salt. I lost all credability for that site when they posted that Terry Bradshaw died in a car accident last January.
JAX is in need of a gutsy quality receiver. Coles (who is a JAX native / resident) would be a HUGE upgrade for them. Whether not a realistic trade would happen (or one that works for the JETS) remains to be seen....
Not sure how I feel about this, but if we can get good value for him, maybe we pull the trigger, upgrade on D and draft a big WR like James Hardy from IU.
Yeah PFT has it's ups and downs.... but who knows, maybe Terry Bradshaw did die that day. Just not the Ex-Steeler now HOF Bradshaw... But things will fall into place more and more post combine... But i still want to know how this thread went from Trading Coles to the Jags, to the Jets trading for both Larry Fitzgerald, Julius Peppers signing tommy kelly and grabbing Alen Faneca... that would be the weirdest offseason in a while...
