    1. Chad played great today. But, I still want to see it against a great pass defense. I'm a huge Chad supporter, though, and I think he'll get the job done the next 2 weeks.

    2. No running game, but didn't expect there to be. If Herm's the coach, we lose this game. Herm would've run the ball 40 time for 80 yards. Mangini however plays to our strenghts and the team's weakness.

    3. Coles and Cotchery are going to be our tandem for a while. What a duo.

    4. Dewayne. Wow. Great game. Same for Thomas and Ellis and Barton. Defense played real well today, although that Vikings offense with Johnson looked pretty pathetic.

    5. Still no impact plays from Vilma. Amazing to think he doesn't have a sack on the year. However, watching the Jets you know he leads the defense out there, emotionally. Great leader.

    6. Secondary played well, and I actually think it's been a strength throughout the year. Dyson and the rotating four-some behind have struggled at times, but have generally been at least solid. Many of our sacks are coverage sacks.

    7. The rookie safety Eric Smith is looking good. What a great play, knocking that ball loose in the endzone.

    8. Leon is potentially as electric as Miller on kick returns. Why the hell hasn't he been doing punt returns all year? Dwight had been awful when he was healthy. Still say he should get some more carries. Why is Houston the end-all be-all back now? Not to say he would've succeeded against this run defense - wow they are unbelievably impressive. we need a pat williams type.

    9. Nugent looking good now, too. hasn't missed a beat in a while.

    10. Overall, the team played well. But, it's only a start. Chad needs to have a great game against a very good Miami defense. And if they win there, they absolutely cannot choke to Oakland.

Vilma no impact plays? He made a great tackle for nothing on the first play if I remmeber right. Vilma was all over the place today even if the stat sheet doesn't say it

Dwight is better than Washington oin punt returns. Washington had 1 good game

    5. I'm glad someone acknowledged the leadership Vilma brings to the defense. He may not be making big plays but he demands attention all the time when he is on the field. I was listening to pregame on 1050 and they had some Vikings reporter on who was talking about how the Vikings would probably put two bodies on Vilma. That kind of attention makes it easier for other people to make plays.

Ok, I missed the first few plays, so I missed that one. But, overall I'd say Barton, Ellis, Robertson and Thomas were around the ball more. Vilma didn't play poorly, just nothing dramatic, no IMPACT. C'mon I'm talking about a huge play here, he hasn't made any all year.

I think the reason Dwight had been back there was because he was a very sure handed returner. It is better to have someone back there that you know will catch the ball every time than someone who will make a big play but then give up a big play by fumbling it

I think I was was clear I was just talking about punt returns THIS YEAR. Obviously, he's been a great punt returner in the past. He hasn't been a good punt returner since '02.

Dwight was averaging 10.4 per punt return this year playing while injured.
10.4 would put him 9th in the NFL overall. That is in the top 1/3 of punt returners. He did this without busting a really long one which means he was pretty darn consistent as well.

True, but I'll take explosiveness over consistency, on special teams returns anyday. We've yet to really see what Leon can do, but c'mon how can anyone argue that he dosen't have more of an upside as a punt returnet than an old Tim Dwight?

As a punt returner, Dwight brought security. He knew when to let the ball go, when to fair catch, and he was sure-handed. Leon is a better returner if he can prove that he has those skills.

Balls, Dwight fair caught a ridiculous number of punts inside the 10, when letting them go would give a good chance of a touchback, or bounce back beyond where he stood.

Punt returning is hard. Justin Miller was bad at it last year and fumbled way too much. Dwight wasn't the man or anything but he got the job done.

Back to game notes, did anyone notice that JMAC is keeping with his prior habit of not finishing a play?

I'm not speaking of the bomb that he plucked out the air. Rather, the other long throw which went his way, close enough that it was on his fingertips when he was partially extended.

Point being, if the guy gave just that little bit extra when balls were thrown his way, some of us wouldn't be calling for his head at the end of this season.

That ball was VERY catchable, he should have done a little more to pull it in. Someone like Coles would have given everything they had to reel that one in.

Man, I could be wrong but I'm almost sure that even if he did catch it he would have been out of bounds. Chad overthrew it a little, you can't really blame McCariens.

That’s weird about JMAC. He's nowhere and then all of a sudden pop, he's in the right place for a big catch, then he disappears again. That was a catchable ball; we were all screaming Dive when that ball was thrown.

I'm not sure as to where he would have been post-catch, but I'd just like to see the guy give an extra effort.

Extend, toe drag, do it all baby!
