This is my first post! I just want this thread to be about sharing your experiences being a Jets fan. Growing in a Giants house hold as a kid, big blue seemed normal and as I watched the tv with my family as a child, the other teams colors always looked wierd. When I got older it dawned on me I could do whatever the hell I wanted and became my own man! I saw a documentary about Joe Namath and superbowl 3 and the Jets just stood out, how the jersey numbers are on the actual side and how they remind me of the army (Im a vet). I decided to make them my team before doing my research to find out superbowl 3 was their only superbowl. But once I commit to something there is no going back! So Im doing this damn thing. My first game will be september hopefully my birthday weekend. Now I want to here from you! Lets talk about our love for this damn team!
When me and my mate got into the NFL back in the 80's when it took off in the UK, we both went with a team from NY, he went with the Giants and I went with the Jets. Guess which one of us has had the more enjoyable fan experience since then?
Hahahaha, that’s great... But not really at all. Its funny how certain fans of successful franchises feel like they are somehow better than other fans, meanwhile this is all luck. We, as fans, have no say in how our team does... We just pick (or born into it which is still chance) a team and hope they do well.
Born into being a Jets fan. Funny enough my dad is a Giants fan, but basketball was his real passion to watch on tv so football never rubbed off on me until one of my friends was a Jets fan. I'm one of the "unusual" combos of Yankees/Jets. Its weird trashtalking the same people in football season that had my back in baseball season haha
Welcome aboard! You know...they can be frustrating, they can be joyous and the Jets can make you cry. But I think you can say that about any sports franchise. The Jets get the "whoa is me play" because of the city they are in...but I wouldn't change for the world. You'll enjoy the hell out of this team! Have fun!
Being in a family of all Jets fans I was locked and I could never root for another team. Welcome to the family. :jets:
See, this is what I'm talking about right there, tough love! Sanchez is my boy, but if Tebow can pull his weight and we win the division, get into the playoffs and win the superbowl, then he's cool with me! I'm no blind follower though....
Grew up in a family of hardcore Mets fans, no real football influence, but considering I was a Mets fan and would constantly go to Isles games I always identified with the underdog. Became a big fan when I was a kid and the Jets had Keyshawn who I LOVED at the time, I still remember presenting my 2nd grade project on Joe Namath.
Grew up in the Bronx. My two brothers are Giants fans and Met fan's. I have always been Jets and Yankees, Knicks and rangers. Back then when I didn't understand why I needed to hate the giants I think all of New york Pulled for Parcells and the giants when they were in the big games. Later in life mainly based on jealousy I truly hate that franchise because they just seem to win a super bowl every 6-7 years or so. They can absolutely suck , but somehow manage to just put it together...Lucky bastards!
I grew up in a redskins household and had a falling out with my father and his side of the family and I couldn't keep the same team being that it reminded me of them. After years of not watching I went on a hunt for a team and right around when that locker room thing happened with the female reporter a couple years ago. I saw how the news was putting them in a negative light and I thought it was ridiculous. That drew me to this team and I will never look back. Not a big Tebow fan though like a lot of the other newer fans haha.
Me and a friend at school started following the NFL on Channel 4 in the UK back in 1983. We didn't know anything about the game and spent the first season just soaking everything in. In 1984 we decided we needed teams to follow. I could have chosen the Rams (I'm from a city called Derby and the soccer team is known as the Rams) or New England (an obvious choice for an Englishman), but something about the Jets just called to me. I loved the name, loved the unis, loved the city and went for the Jets. No matter what, I've honestly never regretted it and the Jets have given me some of the most amazing experiences of my life as far as sports go.
My sister married a n/yker and when i came over for a visit her fella who is a jets fan took me to a game in the early 90's and we got stinking pissed. Fuckin hate my sister sometimes for getting me involved with the jets, like my life needed any more sport heartache! only jokin ever since then i was hooked came home tried to convince my missus and mates to get into nfl and only my best mate did he has family in Cali so became a raiders fan so that loss last year kicked me square in the balls. Twenty years later here i am still waitin for a jets superbowl
