Figured this deserved its own thread. Mark Andrews almost has more catches so far tonight (11) than the Jets tightends have all year (14). Ravens tightends have one less (13) in total tonight.

Maybe we can sign a guy like Jared Cook who at least sort of fills the void as a middle grade tightend one of these years?

Cook gonna be 35 years old next year. Who knows what he’s gonna be by then or if he’s even playing. But Jets def need to uncover a TE threat. Who knows what Yeboah becomes but this current crop does nothing for me. Kroft is meh to be and better suited as a backup.

I think the plan has been to go after one in next year's draft. Guys like Kolar or Wydermyer.

You also got guys like Gesicki and Njoku who will be UFA this offseason.

I'm really upset that we didn't see Yeboah last weekend. I think he's got talent and needs a shot. Lafleur really doesn't like using tight ends which is aggravating.

Lafleur is really starting to get on my nerves

When does Isaac Rex come out of BYU? He had a great connection with ZW and has good hands. At least in college.

You look around the league and most teams have no issues stockpiling TEs that can block and catch and run a decent route. I look at some teams and they have 2 and sometimes 3 TEs that would start for the Jets. And these aren't all good teams, either.

My younger brother played high school basketball with Cook, they attended each others weddings and still talk an a semi regular basis. After the season last year, my brother said he talked to him and he was on the verge of "hanging them up." Doesn't sound like he's at the point of his career (after this season) where he's at all interested in coming to a bad/rebuilding team.

But I agree. Our TE stable is one of the worst I can recall right now.

With how the offense has started, it wouldn't surprise me if JD kicks the tires on Ertz and/or OJ Howard at or before the deadline.

I'm not advocating for giving up premium picks for either of these guys because they'll essentially be 2-3 month rentals, but if either can be had for a mid-late round pick, I wouldn't hate it.

Having a receiving threat at TE would be a nice addition and help Zach out a ton IMO.

I was going to comment on this very topic. TE is probably the Jets weakest position group. I'm not sure if it is a function of not being able to scout for TE talent or develop TE talent, but consider that we traded away our *best* TE, Herndon, for a bag of deflated footballs to a Vikings team that saw its top 3 TEs leave in the offseason or get injured in preseason.... and he's #3 on their depth chart, without a catch, and can't get on the field. That's pretty telling.

He's a low hanging fruit example of a professional tightend that is usually available in the offseason and goes to different franchises each year to give them 500 yards and 5 touchdowns and makes peanuts to do so.

There are other guys out there every year as it's one of the easier positions to stop gap every year. And we haven't done it at all over the past decade+.

Biggest need on the team IMO, hoping there will be a draft worthy TE with either our 2nd first rounder or either 2nd rounder.

that move should've been made before the season. At 1-8 there is no point to making a deadline deal

You're probably right but it would at least show that they acknowledge that they made a mistake. Who knows, maybe they trade a pick for OJ Howard, he does well and then they re-sign him after the season.

I'm never going to be upset by the FO making a move to help our QB. Even if it is for just a few months.

I’m hoping they bring two TEs in next year. At least one drafted in the second or third round and one FA signing. Basically just start over. Hang on to Yeboah and dump the rest of em….

This is where criticism of Douglas is 10000% warranted. To leave your rookie QB without that security blanket is so counterproductive. And then the guys you DO give him are barely NFL caliber players. Is it stubbornness? Does Douglas think these guys are good because he claims they are? Or is it just flat out bad talent evaluation? I said it in another thread but the way we find unique ways to ruin QBs will never cease to amaze me.

I wouldn't mind hanging on to Kroft. I feel like he's a solid #2 TE but he can't be your #1.

The Jets bugaboo for decades. Rich Caster was good but Shuler was my all time favorite. Herndon and Johnny Mitchell were the biggest disappointments. Other teams can just find a TE on a street corner. They Jets not so much.

I agree but the Jets over different offensive coordinators never feature the TE. It gives the other team an advantage they don't have to pay attention to them.
