Unfortunately as Jet fans we have been conditioned to expect adversity and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn?t happen. Years of pain and suffering will do that to you. As soon as we attempt to change our thinking we get disappointed. The losses to Miami and Buffalo are painful remainders that we have not quite been able to get the monkey off our backs. BUT ?.I believe we are getting damn close and I am optimistic that things are changing for the long run: A) Our future is bright ? We finally have the key pieces to build from, both defensively and offensively B) We have a rookie HC and QB that will change the way we feel and play. They exude confidence. We will never be the SOJ. We can beat anyone when we execute and when we lose we usually beat ourselves. Yet win or lose we are not playing in the shadow of any team and we will not kiss anyone?s ass as superior to us. C) The season is not over for us. It?s not time to panic but rather stop making the mistakes that allow us to beat ourselves. D) Finally, so we lost 3 games we should have won, ok, who is to say we cannot win 2 or 3 games that everyone seems to be convinced we will lose. NE, Atlanta, Indy and Cincinnati are good teams but are not invincible. It takes for us to assert our will on them and the Jets have the horsepower to do it. Force them to make mistakes. E) I think all it takes is an attitude adjustment and more attention to details. We are winners and winners don?t beat themselves. The bye week should get them refocused on that very point. F) If we can muster that we can be a playoff team this year. The second half will tell what fiber we are made of
As it has been said by many before this teams future is bright. Over the rest of this year and next we have to find ways to win games instead of lose them. Take a team like the Colts for example...nearly every time they play, even if they are down 10 at halftime is there every a doubt that they are going to win or either make it go down to the wire? The Saints too the past few weeks they have been getting their asses beat in the first half but they still came back and won. Sure...having a dominate offense helps but teams like the Colts, Pats, Steelers and now it seems the Saints "know how to win". They find ways to get a W even when they play like shit. Thats what this team needs to develop. No matter how good your team is every year you're going to have a few clunkers but good teams find ways to win even when they are having an off day. We'll get there, we're on the right track, but it takes time. The next few years in tyhe AFC East are going to be crazy. The Pats will be the Pats as long as Billy Boy and Tom Gaydy are there. And although I hate to admit it I think the FIns are on the right track as well. The next few years should be very exciting.
This is a great point, and illustrates why this team is really only about a year away. Miami #1 - The defense had it's worst game of the season as the Fish moved the ball at will. We were still 6 seconds from winning the game. Bills - Sanchez throws 5 interceptions. We were a botched hold from winning the game. Miami #2 - We give up 3 fluke touchdowns. We were some questionable play calls in the red zone from winning the game. Those are the games that SB contenders win. We're not there yet, but considering the circumstances in each of those games, to even be in position to win them shows that we're close.
