I decided on draft day to nick-name this guy Ghost, but I didn't realize until now that that is kind of a bad omen. I mean really even with Bowens not doing much and Harris OUT I NEVER see him make plays. (or even tackles) I'm really starting to worry because to me he hasn't shown ANY development and people were considering him a bust even before the draft... The best way to build a winning franchise is to be a franchise that knows how to draft. It's proven. IMO we are a top 10 (probably top 5) draft day franchise but this pick to me just stands out as 1 mistake we will be known for. Thoughts?
Don't panic. Some draft picks develop slower than others. Some are busts... some aren't. You won't know for a season or two. So it's pointless to keep asking yourself if he is a bust or not.
I think Bowens is doing a decent job of filling in for Harris, considering he's a spot starter at a position he hasn't practiced or played until now.
last I checked, Long is playing, is making some tackles and allready has a few sacks this year. Gholston has made zero big plays, doesnt even seem to get on the field any more, and the closest he has come in recent weeks to doing anything, is whiffing on special teams tackles.
I thought Gholston was the pick to make and I was honestly worried about him going to the Pats if we didn't pick him. Now I think those people who claim you don't pick a guy who needs to change positions in the first round are right. Its one thing to pick Bruschi in the 3rd round and wait for him to change positions, but to eat the cap space of a #6 pick while he learns something new doesn't look good in hindsight. I know Calvin Pace made the transition in one year, but in an interview somewhere he said he played LB in high school.
To be fair, it is a pretty persistent topic. I'll just make this the official Vernon Gholston performance thread then.
who wants to place a bet that there will be a new Vernon " The Ghost" Gholston thread on Thursday night?
How about we call this "The Official Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas Are Doing Their Jobs Thread"? Wait, never mind... too logical.
Hahahah. Aka "The official wheres the fuckin fire, he's a rookie learning a new position at the highest level of his sport thread?" Yours still makes more sense. Mine is an excuse.
give him time...look at Calvin Pace...same story, he took years to hit his stride...now he is a beast...itll come be patient...
