Wow! What a first day. I couldn't be happier that the media has been shut out. Screw them, truly the worst set of beat reporters on the planet. Cannizzaro and Cimini actually wrote entire articles expressing their anger to the Jets. Nice impartial reporting. Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought Mangini said to these players to get them so spooked. What could he actually threaten these players with to make them so afraid to talk to the media?
I mean everybody nows D'Brickashaw is going to play a lot, and he is trembling like a little girl saying, " I don't want to get in trouble". I love it. God I hate Herm. For 5 years he coddled these guys and massaged their egos, never pushing them. Never allowing them to get better, to play to their max potential. I think Mangini is going to be a phenomenal coach.

Seems like he has already won over the players. Not bad for a rookie head coach...

Given the caliber of players he's been recruiting, he may have threatened to take away their stacks of novels or chess boards. Or fines.

    ehh... i think mangini's ok.

im worried that he will try to hard to mimic belichek. although beli is a hall of fame coach, i dont think mangini will do well by trying to copy his actions completely. he needs to establish his own indentity.

its nice that he learned under a master, but to eventaully defeat the master (win the afc east), the student must use his skills he learned to develop new stratagies capable of beating his master.

a little philosophical, yes... so in lamen terms, mangini eventaully needs to stop hanging belichek's nutsack, and grow some of his own stones.

H'mmm it is truly amazing all the hatred now coming out for Herm when the same people were so strongly supporting him during his tenure

I think he is trying to assert and establish himself first. He is not much older than some of the vets on the team, so it would be easy for the players (and even some in his coaching staff) not to see him as a coach and try to push him around a little. I think these stronge arms tactics are a way of telling the players "I am the coach, period, it doesn't matter how old I am, I'm not taking any shit and we are doing things my way." Once he feels he has made the point, you might see him let up slightly and start developing his own style.

Uh...no. I know I don't post as much as other people, I'm not really concerned, Champion, about getting my Benchwarmer status changed to Totally addicted like yours, but I have never supported Herm. Terrible coach. Say what you want about his motivational skills (which were old and tired the last 2 years), but he did NOTHING to improve the Jets. Any success they had can be a thought of as a credit to the talent and leadership the Jets already had on the team.

Well the man did lie to everyone's face via the media and took off running with his tail between his legs when adversity hit him.
He apparently needs a self sustained team that needs little coaching for him to succeed.
