Better choices made when drafting means better competition at camp and a deeper roster (in terms of quality). That should add up to a better football team. More than that, if the young players can clock up some significant playing time, it gives a team the holy grail of youth, plus experience, plus a comparatively cheap contract for a few years. Spread over the team, more first-contract players leaves your contracts negotiator with more money to lock up your expensive core guys, when they need to be re-negotiated Then there are injuries. A large and regular influx of quality rookies allows the team to get younger. Younger should mean less injuries and when younger players are injured, they bounce back faster. Good depth allows you to cut injury-prone players and move on. Not having to take a risk on a player with a lengthy injury history, because the next guy up is almost as good, is playing the percentages, and in the long run percentages count. The Jets need to get back to the basic! Peace out.
