I'm going to get destroyed for creating this thread by the Jets fan waving their green Pom Poms, but considering that Devin Smith arguably cost this team two wins (Houston and Buffalo) and our special teams in general was atrocious its an interesting question to ask. In their defense I actually heard that the Jets were in on Lockett in the 3rd round and only traded down that pick because he was gone. Nonetheless Devin Smith looks like he will be a black mark on Macs resume. Take a look at rookie WRs this year taken in the first two rounds Total Stud Amari Cooper Tyler Lockett Looked awesome by the end of the year Devante Parker Devin Funchess Dorian Green Beckham Hurt the whole year Kevin White Breshad Perriman Bad rookie season but stayed healthy Phillip Dorsett Nelson Agholor Bad rookie season and has torn ACL Devin Smith Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kind of hard to judge this pick yet given he got hurt so often his first year. But he didn't look good when he played. Macc definately could have found somebody better but I'm not going to hold it against him. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
So after one season involving an injury, it's automatically a failure. Thank God you have no say on the roster.
Pryor is the most overrated Jet on the team. He's a solid starter, but hes not the all pro that people make him out to be. Also Calvin wasn't coming off of an ACL tear. We will likely need to wait until 2017 to find out what Devin Smith is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All those guys had better QB play. Devin is best suited to QBs like Cam, Cutler, Wilson, Ben etc -- QBs with strong arms.
We've heard the same stuff about the Pryor pick last year, let's give it 2-3 years before you want to grade our draft. Lockett is doing well in Seattle, he didn't miss a couple months due to injury, he's got a QB who can throw the deep ball well. Devin was injured, he's a deep threat with a QB that can't throw the ball downfield with accuracy/timing/anticipation. So there you go. Lockett would be just as ineffective here in terms of stretching the field and I guarantee you if both guys switched teams Devin would have the better numbers. So who cares. Devin came along late in the year, he's gonna be fine.
Agreed. And it's hard for me to even judge Mac based on last years draft considering Bradway was still running the college scouting department Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well even if he is overrated he still makes a difference. The defense wasn't half as good when he was hurt those few games. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Why are you including WR's that were already taken before Smith? Are you suggesting we should've taken Parker or White instead of Leonard Williams? I agree Smith has not looked good..and I def would've preferred DGB over him in the 2nd round. But its 1 season. And that to him was what? 6 games? Lets give him , I dont know , more than 6 games to label him a finished product?
Starting a thread knowing you are going to get shit on should be your first clue. Stop making threads. _
Overrated? Lol. No he's not. He was maligned with short sighted views such as yours, and has proved to be a good player. If every player was rated negatively based on an injury there'd be busts, or "mistakes" as you put it, everywhere you looked. The Fuck Outta Here Edit. I didn't see the other responses above. Sorry to the board for engaging this bitch. I'm not familiar with her
That's why this jerkoff needs to stop making threads. It's like if I said Mac made a mistake drafting Petty because....Marcus Mariota. _
Maybe, but it's obviously way too early to judge. He was my least favorite player at times last year, but he's a rookie 2nd round pick who cleary has plenty of ability and skills. Even OSU fans I know, who are critical of a lot of other players, liked Devin Smith as a player. He's got a very seasoned OC and QB and two of the better wideouts in the game to learn from. All things taken together, I still have reasonable hope for him to develop
