one thing for sure is that d-rob is make a solid case for sticking around for the next season or 2... i think we can agree dt may not be that big of a concern in the offseason if he continues to push the pocket the ways he has the last couple of weeks. If you look at the tape closely i can count about 4 rushing plays that he blew up with guards pulling before they even got around the edge of the line
You never see many missed tackles like you did during the past couple of years and also there is much more movement before the snap by the defense.
Right on the head. That this is the reason for the recent surge..D rob has consistently been winning the battle on the interior and it has improved our run D drastically. When you win the battle in the trenches and contain a running game...you have alot more options in terms of scheme, which leads to more success.
The Jets were missing too many tackles earlier in the year. The team has been tackling much better of late.

kerry rhodes is a real difference maker... and our defense has started to play as a team. I'm sure after last week's main missed tackle, our defense clamped down on it
I absolutely do not recognize D-Rob since the bye week. He's actually playing like a stopgap nose guard who can occupy two blockers. I've been very critical of his play at the nose this season, but another game like the last two will have me reversing my field on whether or not he could be the answer long-term at the nose for the Jets.
Robertson has been great lately. He's been taking up his blockers, and making a few plays here and there, which is what you want.
There has been an absolute marked defensive imrpovement since the first half of the Cleveland game. We looked awful defensively in the first half of the game, but played great in the 2nd half and have played great defensively ever since. And today's run defense was extremely encouraging. Yeah, it's the Texans, but no-name backs have had success against us all this season (which forces us to listen to announcers talking about how great they are) so today represented a step in the right direction.
I discount the Cleveland game, largely - it's not difficult to have a short spell of success. What I think happened is the bye week allowed the opoprtunity to key in on what was killing us in the first half of the season. We figured we'd lose to NE and Chicago anyway, so went with a high-risk strategy. Yesterday was the best display of all, in my view, as we backed away from the all-or-nothing defense of the previous two games, played a "regular" game and still looked impressive doing it. Teams are now scared of what we can bring, so I'm looking for a balance from here on in, but there's no need to bring the all-out, high-risk D of the Pats & Bears games every week, so long as the opponents are reminded that we are capable of it. Next week is a good opportunity to bring heavy pressure - a shaky offensive line and an erratic QB who throws the ball up for grabs regularly. I'm excited.
Justin Miller wasn't on the field much yesterday, Barrett was healthy and Eric Smith played yesterday and was a big factor in coming up in run support. He is a little bigger and tougher than Coleman in run support.
Enough crap about the 3-4 vs the 4-3 that creeps into these posts EVERY week..Patience is paying off as everyone has learned the system and now our 3-4 looks pretty impressive. the D-Line WAS GREAT if anyone noticed..Mangini is the man ..PERIOD!!
It took a while and I wasn't alwats confident it would work out in the end but the D has adjusted to the new system, they have tweaked it a bit and now we have a very good Defense.
You have to teach players the system. That gives you the opportunity to go out and get better players where you need them and have a strong system. If you conform the system to the players you will be inherently weaker than you otherwise would be because the average player's career is too short to predicate a system around their continued presence in it. Teach the system and then replace players as needed.
The players are buying into the system. DRob has been playing well lately, and Sutton has been calling more blitzes. I'm pleased with the progress. This proves how important putting pressure on the QB is, and we've been doing that.
