I really enjoy this forum of the boards specifically because the draft is the most entertaining portion of just about any sport from my perspective. On top of that, the posters here really get deep into this stuff and create unique opinions, which are extremely valuable to people like me who don't have the same time and/or passion to follow suit. With that said, I was hoping to see anybody who has an opinion reply to this thread with the following: LIST 1: ACCEPTABLE PLAYERS FOR THE JETS' FIRST PICK IF TRADING UP LIST 2: ACCEPTABLE PLAYERS TAKEN AT #29 LIST 3: ACCEPTABLE PLAYERS FOR THE JETS' FIRST PICK IF TRADING DOWN In making the lists please consider that it's not a list of whom you HOPE they would make those moves for, but essentially showing where the cutoff would be for you to not say, "man, I don't like this." Obviously List 2 would include all players in List 1, and List 3 would include all players in List 1 and List 2, so there's no need to relist them. Even if players are obvious (as they will be in List 1 - Suh, McCoy, etc), please list them anyway just for the sake of those of us that aren't as well-versed. Again, these won't be lists of guys that would be the BEST moves, but instead the guys that would be "acceptable," even if you weren't in love with it. I think these lists will be useful to a lot of us on draft day to check whatever the Jets do against, and it could also foster some discussion, i.e. "I don't agree - if they're trading back but end up with Player X with their first pick, I think it's a bad move." I want to reiterate how much I appreciate all the time and effort that the big guns in this forum put into forming their own opinions - it's nice to get away from the group-think that's out there. Thanks, guys!
If the Jets were going to trade up for anyone, it'd have to be Jared Odrick or Earl Thomas. 1. Jared Odrick. DL, PSU 2. Mike Iupati, OL, Idaho 3. Everson Griffen, OLB, USC 4. Linval Joseph, DL, ECU 5. Carlos Dunlap, DL, Florida 6. Rodger Saffold, OL, Indiana 7. Vladimir Ducasse, OL, UMASS 8. Nate Allen, S, USF 9. Cam Thomas, NT, UNC It's fairly obvious that I want to improve the lines in this draft. I have feeling that both Odrick and Iupati will be long gone before our pick, but they are my top two players for the Jets. Saffold and Ducasse are very intriguing prospects if we trade back into the beginning of the second. I think both have the ability to play inside at guard or outside at tackle. I think Ducasse is going to be a hell of a right tackle in this league if he's given the chance to sit and learn.
So that would be List 3 then? Cam Thomas is the absolute minimum the Jets need to be able to select in order to successfully trade back in your view? Or is that List 2, which would make Thomas the absolute lowest acceptable pick at #29 for you?
LIST 1: ACCEPTABLE PLAYERS FOR THE JETS' FIRST PICK IF TRADING UP Brandon Graham Joe Haden Earl Thomas Dan Williams Sergio Kindle LIST 2: ACCEPTABLE PLAYERS TAKEN AT #29 Kyle Wilson Devin McCourty Mike Iupati Jared Odrick LIST 3: ACCEPTABLE PLAYERS FOR THE JETS' FIRST PICK IF TRADING DOWN Everson Griffen Kareem Jackson Linval Joseph Terrence Cody Taylor Mays NOTE: Odrick and Kindle are both on the edge of list 1 and 2 for me
List 3. Cam Thomas is not a first rounder. Ducasse, Saffold, and Allen aren't either. If we were able to trade back into the middle of the second, these are the guys I'd look at. I put it in order. Basically I started at pick 29 and worked my way down that list...these are the guys that should be available.
Saffold is a hell of a prospect. I've been raving about Ducasse to Badger for the last 2 or 3 months. would love to pick up either one (esp Ducasse to fill in for Woody) if we traded back.

Here you go. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton of people. Note list 3 is assuming we trade down to the 2nd only. List 1 Ndamukong Suh Eric Berry Dan Williams Brandon Graham Jared Odrick List 2 Russell Okung Bryan Bulaga Rolando McClain Jason Pierre-Paul Derrick Morgan Earl Thomas Joe Haden Anthony Davis Dez Bryant Mike Iupati Segio Kindle Maurkice Pouncey Everson Griffen Ryan Matthews Morgan Burnett (Yes, I'm way higher on him than anyone else) Trent Williams Gerald McCoy List 3 CJ Spiller Jahvid Best Kareem Jackson Patrick Robinson Kyle Wilson Golden Tate Linval Joseph Reshad Jones Greg Hardy Devin McCourty Ricky Sapp Toby Gerhart Nate Allen Charles Brown Terence Cody Damian Williams Carlos Dunlap Demaryius Thomas
Trade up: Brandon Graham, Earl Thomas Stay put: Iupati, Joseph, Kyle Wilson Trade down: depends how far
If somehow Brandon Graham were to slide out of the TOP 20, I would try really hard to go up and get him. At 29 I would be happy with Kindle, Griffen, Hughes or Jospeh If we trade back I like Jospeh and Alualu

Im surprised more people wouldnt want us to trade up for Ryan Matthews. If hes on the board and we can move up 2 or 3 picks to jump in front of the Chargers to grab him hell yeah. And it shouldnt cost us that much to move up 2 or 3 picks. Could possibly get away with it for a 2011 5th rounder or something (rather not give up this years 4th, but still if we could get Matthews id be on board) For a guy that everyone compares to LT how fitting would it be for him to get to play and learn behind LT. Plus itll give us all the more reason to dump Leon on draft day. Hell now that I think about it, we REALLY should of asked the Cardinals to swap 1st round picks with us in the Kerry Rhodes trade. I bet they still would of taken it
He's a beast of a prospect some might scared off because he's a workout warrior but his skillset is way better than Gholston's, just an overall better athlete. His only knock is his lack of experience. But with Rex in charge i wouldnt be worried. We have Shonn Greene, LT for 2 years and Leon theres no more room for another RB. If we trade leon fine but until then it makes no sense.
I appreciate the depth of your list, but if we make the first Jets pick of the 2010 draft a wide receiver, I will throw things at the TV. My answer to the first category is kind of a catch-22: I'm OK with any player the Jets trade up to draft, by merit of the fact we traded up to draft him. Mark Sanchez, Shonn Greene, David Harris, Dustin Keller and Darrelle Revis are all trade-ups. That core group buys some pretty deep loyalty from me, the fan, when assessing trade-up value. So let's say the Jets trade up to secure Everson Griffen, a guy I am neither high on nor truly convinced will go before 29. In spite of the fact that I sit here, pre-draft, adamant that the Jets should not trade up under any circumstances, I'm OK with it, because Rex, Tanny and Co. decided it needed to happen. Does that sound right or do I sound like a sheep? Staying put, I'd like Thomas, Mathews, Wilson, Iupati or Odrick, in that order. (It's an intentional list of "theyllbegones," which is why I think we should trade down). Trading down... Tyson Alualu. I've been trying hard to look at Alualu through Green Hurricane's eyes, but I just can't see it. Alualu looks to me like the steady, unspectacular core player that the other "spending spree" teams forget to stock.
Trading up: Eric Berry Dan Williams Earl Thomas Staying put: Jared Odrick Sergio Kindle Maurkice Pouncey Mike Iupati Trading down: Linval Jospeh Nate Allan Tyson Alualu Terrance Cody Devin McCourty
I definitely thought about putting him on my list, but the more I thought about it the less I liked the idea of using a 1st on a RB, let alone trading up for him. Not to take anything away from Greene or any other good RBs in this league, but I don't think it's too difficult to find a solid RB these days. I'd much rather see them add someone like Iupati who would pave the way for any RB who comes along for years to come.
You'll notice that the only WR I would take if we stayed put is Bryant. If he somehow he was there and everyone else remaining were the usual suspects we expect at 29, then he'd be the highest guy on our board. We pretty much would have to take him unless and we can trade down. It's like when Minnesota drafted Randy Moss. They were not in the market for a wide receiver as they had CC, Reed and Hatchette (yeah I said it). But all that went out the window when they got to their pick and he was there.
Trade up for: Eric Berry, Brandon Graham, Jason Pierre-Paul, or Derrick Morgan. Draft @ 29 if they're still there: Kyle Wilson, Jared Odrick, Sean Weatherspoon, Vladimir Ducasse, Maurkice Pouncey, Jerry Hughes or Sergio Kindle. Trade down and take (if none of the above are available): Linval Joseph, Daryl Washington, Ricky Sapp, Koa Misi, Corey Wooton, Carlos Dunlap, Everson Griffen, Terrence Cody, or Tyson Alualu. If we don't trade up for one of those four guys, who would immediately make our defense better, than I would love to see us trade down, considering there's not a huge discrepancy in talent between lists 2 and 3. Weatherspoon and Wilson would be too good to pass on at 29, but burning a first rounder this year on an OL would be tough, and I'm not sure a guy like Kindle or Odrick would be much better than any of the guys on list 3. This is the kind of year where I wish we had 3 second rounders.... hope the pats somehow manage to blow it.
